this latest oil train derailment was in north dakota. in february a trail derailed erupting into a fire ball in west virginia. a similar explosion followed in illinois a month later fortunately no one was hurt. it is these kinds of accidents that are prompting environmental activist david mazer to sound the alarm. tankers derailed over the city's river no one was hurt and no oil was spilled. >> it made me realize what a near miss that was. >> reporter: a near miss because of the growing closeness of oil lines. >> often they are carrying dozens of cars with very volatile crude oil on them putting people in this park and this community at risk and all along these train lines. >> mazer's group estimates 700,000 people in philadelphia and surrounding suburbs liver within half a mile of train lines if an oil train catches fire. between 31 and 65 oil trains like this one pass through philadelphia each week. the reason there's been such an increase in oil trains is because the oil is headed to refineries like this one on the east coast and thes

one of the things that has changed the geography of north dakota especially the part of north dakotathe other thing that has changed because of the oil wells is how they move that oil around, pipelines, big and small, the military has expressed concern about, but most of it is oil trains. they depart from western north dakota stuffed with crude oil and then they crisscross the country occasionally derailing and blowing up in the process. take a look at this. we have obtained these maps showing all of these nuclear missile silos spread out, all of the green, yell lowell or red dots that you see on this map are nuclear facilities. look at where they now judge up against. those black lines that you see spread across that map are railroad lines. they carry all that crude oil across the country. much of that is coming from places like tie owe ga tyoga over there on the left. a nuclear missile facility located right along rails. another in north dakota located right along the rails. another one in balfour, north dakota, right along the rails. these oil trains have a well documented history

the cattle business is big in south dakota.weather posing any risk to the live stock at this point? >> we are still waiting to see what happens with them. we were trying to push out things quickly friday to remind people to watch out for young live stock. it's most problematic for young calves. fortunately, a lot of them were born a month or two ago so they have a little time underneath them. we are hoping this will not be too bad or too much damage for them. just a little over 1 1/2 years ago, fall of 2013 we had a major blizzard out here. that was quite different because that occurred in the fall before cattle were moved to winter pens. cattle were not ready for the winter. on the back side of winter this is a time when cattle can survive much better. we are hoping this will not be too much. also fortunately, most of the bigger parts of the snowfall have been up in the black hills where there's not as many cattle. most of the snowfall would have been down the plains area where the cattle are on the 6-10 inch side. we are wait

tornadoes whipped through texas and south dakota.ong storms have shaken residents in counties surrounding dallas with some people needing rescued from severe flooding. don champion reports from texas tonight. >> reporter: there is a deluge in denton county, texas. blackhawk choppers airlifted people from the raging floodwaters to safety. cars are submerged in places with people wading through hip deep water and animals are stranded, too. tornadoes were also reported in communities just outside of dallas sunday. >> you need to take your tornado precautions at this time. >> reporter: saturday a tornado with winds up to 165 miles per hour hit the ranching community of cisco, texas. one person was killed. at least three were injured. much of mother's day was spent cleaning up or surveying the damage in cisco. at least a dozen buildings were destroyed or damaged here. >> can't beat mother nature. >> reporter: brett phillips owns a farm here. one of his barns was destroyed when the tornado cut right through his property. here you can almos
