west is 80 miles from dallas. the folks i spoke with overnight, some of them about dallas. some of them about 20 miles from west texas still felt the blast. a lot of them hotel managers, people living in their homes. twhent out into the street. other neighbors felt the blast as well. they initially thought it was an earthquake. social media helped them figure out the blast was coming from this explosion in west texas. many folks in that small tight knit community work at west that home is about 130 units. all of which was actively being evacuated when the blast happened around 8:00 p.m. it did in fact level a four-block radius in the town which is now evacuated. we heard from a first responder describing the scene. listen here. >> well, we heard the explosion so we went ahead and hurried up and got into town. as we rolled into town it was a situation where we pulled up to the retirement home because we knew they would need help. all of the windows were blown out and the doors gone. >> heather, patti ann, it will be a longtime before we gather the gravity of the situation as

west texas is to the north of waco, texas and south of the city of dallas between dallas and waco for those of you not familiar with the area. we have an approaching cold front. this will be a concern as far as any severe weather in the area. you see winds out of the south that's where we are seeing them. south winds mean from the south to the north so it will be blowing toward the north. the concern with that is if there are any chemicals being dispersed from the plant it could belowing more toward the north it could mean evacuations and firefighters may need to change location if we see them shifting once the front pushes east. once the front pushes eastward and we are behind the front in west texas we will see the wind shift from the south to the north. we will blow it to the north from the south. strong winds gusting 35 miles per hour at times. severe weather is a major concern. we have a line of very strong storms to the west of west texasment you can see them right on the radar you can see them coming toward west texas. the timing on the storms when they are expected to arrive a

it is about 80 miles south of dallas. and there are firefighters on the scene that were battling some type of a fire when there was this massive explosion that we have been talking about. the explosion obviously impacting the fire firefighters that were there for the original call. we have heard from the ems director in this particular community that upwards of 60 to 70 people could in fact be dead in the wake of this explosion. but again, the fatality numbers not confirmed. you heard that safety expert talking about anhydrous ammonia. that's a very volatile chemical, upwards of 56,000 gallons of the stuff was stored at this particular fertilizer plant. some of the eyewitnesses reporting that a fireball, some 100 feet tall shot into the sky. we have seen some amateur video on youtube. we are working to get that vetted with our legal department to bring that to you, our viewer. just incredible pictures. reports that about 10 different buildings immediately caught fire, right after this explosion, including the middle schoo

the "dallas morning news" have an arrest.ng else about this strange twist in this case? >> authorities are still extremely tight lipped here. we have reached out to many. what's being reported is that kim williams, 46 years of age, was booked into the jail at 3:00 this morning charmed with capital murder in connection with the murder of the district attorney, his wife, and the assistant district attorney. this is the first arrest directly tied. kim williams, according to the "dallas morning news" is said to be the wife of a former justice of the peace, eric williams. here is how this all fits into the fair you that authorities talked about. eric williams last year was convicted of stealing country property. the plan that directed his prosecution was the district attorney mike mcclellan. is that any motivation for murder? that's what authorities have been looking into. but i tress even as recent as yesterday when i directly put that question to authorities, are you looking at eric williams, they said that he is not a suspect.
