this is the result of a water main that broke here overnight here in daly city.s the water main was still gushing. the pipe burst around 1:00 a.m. you could see the water rushing out from underneath the suv. the suv sunk into the sinkhole. a tow truck company had come by earlier. they said they couldn't pull it out. daly city had to call out a bigger wrecker with a crane on it to get it out of the ground and police were also able to wake up the owner of the suv and deliver the bad news. >> they were trying to get me to come out to look at my car. by the time i came out, what? my car is in the sinkhole. >> reporter: the owner tells us he's going to need to figure out how to get into work this morning as that was his only set of wheels. daly city's fire department cleaning up the mud and trying to figure out just how much of the ground underneath was eroded by this broken water main. as far as the cause, i did ask a worker, could this be weather related? he said it's possible given the amount of rain we had saturday, it's possible that rainwater eroded the structur

daly city customers without power about 1900 were restored by 10 a.m. thursday, but still some 840 customers were in the dark thursday night only moonlight and candlelight visible in the broadmoor neighborhood. jerry martin and his wife pulled out their candles and flashlights packed their perishables in ice relies so much on electricity. so now it's a you know, just for charging or phone were scrambling to put it in the car and charge it up, and we depend so much on it. pg and e outages stretched across the bay area. oakland thousands of people lost power thursday afternoon gas stations and stores had to temporarily close. the screen isn't working completely blank completely blank. this 7 11 store lost access to credit card machines for awhile. light, no system. so we cannot walk everything we closed down and that thornhill elementary school in oakland parents were notified to pick up their children early when power went out called everybody. all the parents were very understanding areas. it is going to take a little bit longer because of accessibility

the daly city public works department is out here. they're not clear on what caused that pipe to burst, if it was caused by the weekend's storm or something else. another storm is on the way. the national weather service is warning the system arriving tomorrow will, quote, likely be one of the most impactful systems on a widespread scale this meteorologist has seen in a long while. that's a quote from the national weather service predicting widespread flooding, collapsed hillsides, downed trees, power outages and possible loss of human life. places like san francisco are gearing up again at moto house, a motorcycle storage facility on 14th street, they're putting in a wall. you could call it a levee according to our own terry mcsweeney, so the flooding that happened there saturday doesn't happen again later tomorrow when another big storm rolls into town. they won't be reopening after about $100,000 in damage from saturday's storm. the owner was ready with his own dam but it wasn't enough. and in the city's public utilities commission

lena howland is live in daly city. lena: working for the past several hours to help clean this up and only in the past couple of minutes we saw a tow truck arrived on scene to get this suv out of this sinkhole. you can see the suv partially submerged in water, including the hood and front two tires. crews are working to help this up and eventually get the car out of this sinkhole. take a look at the while the video of the moment the car fell into this sinkhole around 2:00 this morning. it happened about an hour after a water main break on castle street. crews have been on while trying to shut off the water main. it appears that no one was in the car when this happened at 2:00 this morning. that is why no one was hurt. we are still working towater ha. the only standing water is what is remaining in that sinkhole, still partially submerging that suv, at least to the hood and front two tires. this tree is still a muddy mess. we will give you another update on the condition out here and if they will be able to get this car

jana katsuyama live tonight in daly city, janet thank you for that. in santa cruz county, the coastal town of capitola is recovering tonight after getting hit very hard by the storm. the wharf ripped in half and there is major damage in the downtown village. gay ws jesse gary reports from capitola. capitola thursday, storm surge has transformed the esplanade of the village district into mostly beach with few functioning businesses damage right now. it seems. really severe dominic kings bay bar and grill is barely accessible, storm driven waves pushed high tide four ft, higher than normal and over the protective seawall. what we saw at that point was water coming out of the banks of so called creek and inundating people's homes, inundating businesses in the capital village. strong waves also damaged capital, a centuries old landmark worf and sent at least one piece of lumber into zelda's restaurant. beachside eatery now has plenty of beach but no way to open its doors. upwards of nine businesses are in the same boat . business owners around here are tr

let's forecast track has that moving in at 902, in daly city about 909 in san francisco 9.36. in oakland and about 10, 19 in fremont. so going to be watching that very closely as we've had numerous problems with, especially the winds today. the rain, of course, at issue just because the ground is so saturated. but those winds were incredibly strong. we had trees knocked down in pacific. actually, that one falling on a motorist there along highway one more trees falling down in san bruno on 80 foot tree there as well. just before 6 o'clock in the evening and in brisbane as that cold front is coming through 5.42 tree coming down there and numerous trees falling all around the bay area. the winds have been a major story with the storm system. it even though they backed off a bit, you're still gusting to 39 miles an hour in the richmond district. 36 in daly city, 26 in coma. 33 near beach. then you start to talk about some winds over 40 miles an hour in some spots. the castillo hills before that site died. they have read a sting at over 73 miles per hour in the north bay. we have

you've got 38 mile an hour gust in the richmond. 39 in daly city. how about 44 near beach?s just been ripping across parts of the north bay in the peninsula, especially some of the gusts i looked at renn one gust of over 70 miles an hour and they had a gust of 84 as well. so continuing really howell across many of the mountain tops locally, but all the way down in the urban areas. and that's why it cause so many problems today. many trees coming down in those spots. and now you've got all that saturated soil. everything as we can tonight. and so this will continue to be an issue throughout the night tonight as the winds are going to stay strong. and as you get these periods when these storm cells move through, you're going to see those winds picking up again. and that could bring down more trees. so if you have to travel tomorrow morning, be where it is going to be a dangerous commute early on tomorrow morning as they're likely going to be some debris along the roadways and there's more rain coming in overnight tonight into early tomorrow morning, too. so that being those w

right now, mainly in south san francisco and then down here towards san bruno, out towards pacifica daly, city, como those areas seeing a pretty substantial power outage. in fact, in the city itself, more than 6600 customers without power. but right here on the penonsula, we're looking at more than 41,000 customers without power. so that certainly is one of the hardest hit areas as we slide the maps to the south from redwood city, down in through santa clara county. we're looking at fairly widespread minor outages. that's what all these green dots indicate for us this morning. and it's pretty wide across the county across the entirety. the south bay. we're looking at about 16,000 customers without power from here. let's jump to the east bay. that's probably the least hardest hit area, especially along 6.80, corridor. wannacry pleasant hill out towards the delta. but if you take a look here at the upper east shore freeway from the bay bridge north towards richmond, you're looking at outages that are fairly widespread, although minor in nature, but still fairly widespread. in fact, the east bay
