damian trujillo is live to explain the outrage this is cause being. >> reporter: this court behind me has dealt with a couple of sexual violent predators in the past. and every time it's created an uproar. today, a judge in san jose stamped the official release papers for christopher hubbard, the pillow case rapist as he is known will soon be heading to palm dale. tonight that community is terrified and angry. >> he knows if he re-offends again, he's not getting out. so is he going to leave a witness? that's the fear. >> reporter: he was convicted of at least 40 rapes throughout the state. the sheriff's office says he has admitted to more than 100. he was known as a pillow case rapist because he used to pillow to silence screams of his victims. >> there will be a crime, whether it's on another victim or himself. >> reporter: every time hubbard has been released from prison for rape, he's raped again. and earlier this week a group of prosecutors and women urged the judge to change his mind. they say people like hubbard will always be a threat. >> he may not be a reformed criminal and d

damian trujillo was inside the courtroom and joins us now from the hall of justice. people from all across the state in san jose for this hearing. >> reporter: yeah, they drove all the way up here. the d.a. in l.a. county told me a few weeks ago that the judge's decision to release this suspect over to l.a. county is final. today's hearing here at the hall of justice was to allow people to express why that legally shouldn't happen. so today the judge heard about possible vigilanteism. the emotional testimony came from this woman, a would-be neighbor of the pillowcase rapist, a single mother of four whose husband was killed in afghanistan. >> i'm trying to raise my kids now by myself. so it's scary to think that i would have to leave them home with him literally three minutes down the street from me. >> reporter: the women came from the palm dale area where he is expected to be released. there's fear of vigilanteism in l.a. county and a rumor of neighbors arming themselves. >> us women are going to have to sleep with our guns. because we're going to have to live in fe
