happened just a few hours ago. >> damian trujillo is tracking the latest. do you have any idea how this all started? >> the fire investigators are still investigating and i left the scene at 4:30 and some big trucks there but crews still there trying to find the cause of this fatal fire. it presents a challenge for firefighters east lawn street is only a short distance from the 0.co coliseum. firefighters say they fought the flames for roughly 45 minutes. almost an hour when crews first arrived early this morning, they say there were flames coming from the top and the bottom floor of the apartment building. crews also had to go in to make sure there no other victims trapped inside the building. the battalion chief on the scene confirms two people were critically injured in the fire. the chief also said those two victims later died from their injuries. at last check there is still, again, official cause of this fire. investigators will be on the scene for a while looking for that cause. police officers are also there to secure the scene for those crews. i'm

damian trujillo is in the newsroom with the potential change. damian? >> a deadline imposed by the nfl. one aren't sure many the city of oakland will meet. want to move oakland, san diego and st. lieus to come up with a firm financing plan for a new stadium. that plan has to be submitted by tomorrow. "the chronicle" reports that oakland is not prepared to have taxpayers foot the bill to pay for a new stadium. the city and the county is still paying for the expansion of the coliseum, a tab of $22 million per year total. oakland leaders plan to send a letter to the league hoping to persuade the raiders to stay in oakland. commissioner roger goodell isn't known for easing up on deadlines. with that in mind the christmas eve game at 0.co may have been, in fact, the last game in oakland for the raiders. a harrowing thought for the fans of the silver and black. >> move back to los angeles would destroy the greatest comeback in sports history. >> chargers don't want to share with the raiders. the raiders need to stay in oakland. san diego needs to stay in san

damian trujillo is live in the neighborhood with this report. you know, damian, it's the first murder in newark this year. >> that's right. it's been pretty quiet today here on mclaughlin avenue, but a much different story the last couple days here in this part of the city of newark here in the east bay. now, on monday, a neighbor called newark police saying he got a call from korea asking them to conduct a welfare check. when police arrived, they found a 38-year-old woman unresponsive. they later determined she was dead. today, police announced they arrested her husband for murder. the couple's two children were inside the home when police arrived on monday. they are now in the hands of child protective services. neighbors say they don't like seeing this kind of crime in the area. >> well, i don't -- i don't like it, really. you know, it happens all over the world. our country is in bad shape. >> newark police are not working with the curkorean consulate to notify family members in that part of the world. both the victim and the suspect are curk

nbc bay area's damian trujillo is live at superior court in san jose where the battling families are meeting for a mediation session today. damian? >> reporter: they were supposed to wrap up at 5:00 today, been in there all day. still haven't seen them come out of the courtroom. we were not allowed inside the courtroom, even without the cameras. and so, interesting to see what turns out of this case after 5:00, try to bring you the latest at 6:00. this morning, as you mentioned, supporters of the child with autism rallied in front of the courthouse. they say going after his family is the wrong thing to do and sets a bad precedent. the family has been battling this case for months, even moved out of the sunny veil neighborhood where the locals claim the child pulled another child's hair and bit a woman in another instance. after they claim they failed to get the child's parents to help, the neighbors filed a lawsuit to declare the child with autism a public nuisance. the family insists they did get their son help, hiring a caregiver and giving him special medication. still, a trial stu

. >> nbc bay area's damian trujillo is live outside the county courthouse in san jose. damian, this comes just five weeks before the big game. >> reporter: and as the city attorney for santa clara put it, he's disappointed that this is happening he says at the eleventh hour. in fact, the city is scheduled to hand over the keys to the nfl on monday. and they'll have control of those soccer fields contractually up until after the super bowl. now at issue again is some first class soccer fields right next to levi's stadium. the city says of course it still plans to hand over the keys to the nfl. that is where the nfl is scheduled to house its media compound for monday up until after the super bowl. but the santa clara youth tocker league is trying to get a judge to file an injunction, stopping the nfl from taking over the field. the group claims there are no adequate alternatives for those first class fields. we did speak with some of those soccer players right before the hearing this morning. >> we just want to play on the soccer field. it's just like i want to get better,

in the story only on our station, damian trujillo is at the jail. you spoke to the watchdog who long sounded the alarm that something needed to be addressed at the jail. >> they called the jail observer program for the office of human relations here in santa clara county. in her sit-down interview she said there were problems inside the jail before the alleged murder of inmate michael tyrese by jail guards. she says there are still problems there today. almost half the inmates at the santa clara county jail suffer from a mental illness according to the sheriff's office. kate jones told administrators at the beginning of the year, the jail staff isn't adequately trained to deal with them. her remarks were in this report. >> the guards have a tough job and they've been asked to do things which they are not trained. >> reporter: then the august beating death of this inmate who suffered from a mental

live outside the main jail in san jose, i'm damian trujillo, nbc bay area. >> thanks, damian. >>> the top cop in san francisco calling for something city leaders refused to give him. tasers. it comes after his officers opened fire and killed a man holding a knife last week. the police chief, the mayor and the commission met to talk about use of deadly force. we're outside the san francisco's third baptist church war the naacp is hosting a gathering to talk about frustrations over that deadly shooting. >> reporter: the police chief, the mayor and the commission want to make sure that lethal force is an officer's final and last option. however, the chief says his officers are missing an important option. the cell phone video shows an officer moving to block mario woods as he moves down the sidewalk. it is hard to make out the kitchen knife that police say woods is pointing at them. when the gun goes off, the camera jerks away but a total of five officers fired killing the 26-year-old. >> that officer stated that he fired in defense of 4i78 self-and those behind him. the other officers f
