. >> i'm dan ashley and i'm ama daetz. we are heading into what forecasters are calling a particularly dangerous situation for los angeles. and even now, bone dry conditions are keeping firefighters busy. >> yeah. the latest fire is burning in ventura county, near the city of oxnard. here's a live look at those flames. they're calling this the auto fire. it's burned at least five acres in a dried out riverbed under 101. lots of brush to burn, but it's not threatening any buildings right now. the flames look much less intense than they did just an hour ago, so that's encouraging. we've seen a number of aircraft making drops on this fire. dozens of firefighters are working to get it under control before the winds get any worse. >> now on the palisades and eaton fires, firefighters spent the day putting out hotspots. neither fire grew at all. today, containment is up to 33% on the eaton fire and 14% on palisades. 24 people have died in those two fires, and first responders are still not done searching the burned neighborhoods

i'm ama daetz and i'm dan ashley. >> thanks for joining us. contra costa county prosecutors are filing charges against mueller over a kidnaping for ransom that left the victim so afraid, they never told police. >> abc seven news reporter j.r. stone has been following this investigation for years and joins us live in studio tonight with the new details. j.r. >> dan, two charges were filed against mueller last week and now three this week. it's all new cases we're talking about. it's wild because mueller is already in prison for the vallejo case with denise huskins and aaron quinn. i still remember that night in 2015 when vallejo police called what happened in their city an orchestrated event and not a crime. they later apologized for that. mueller was arrested and convicted, and now he's linked to even more cases. 47 year old matthew mueller, who's currently serving a 40 year federal prison sentence for the 2015 kidnaping and rape of denise huskins in a case that started in vallejo, now faces three new kidnaping charges in contra costa county.

dan. >> okay, thanks very much, sandhya. and as the wildfire burns through los angeles, there is growing concern back here at home, particularly around areas like the oakland hills where people know all too well about the devastating wildfire can bring. city leaders say what makes oakland so dangerous is that it is highly populated with few roads in and out. abc seven news reporter anser hassan has a look at ways to protect people and property. >> a drive through the narrow roads of the oakland hills shows how difficult it could be to evacuate during a natural disaster. >> in this neighborhood, i think that they are taking it seriously and that they are doing everything they can. >> kazemaini was neighborhood burned in the 91 oakland hills fire, an experience that has many aware of the constant wildfire threat. he says the city is doing a lot like annual home inspections by the oakland fire department, but others say much more needs to be done because the streets are narrow. >> sometimes there's only one way out. they would

dan is on the la wildfires.rriors coach steve kerr today confirmed the palisades fire destroyed his childhood home. his 90 year old mother, ann, did make it out okay. thank goodness. >> you know, that's my hometown. and all my friends who are from there, pretty much. they've all lost, lost their homes, their their family homes, childhood homes. our whole high school's gone. the town looks like it has just been completely wiped out. it's surreal. >> in this photo from 1996, ann kerr is seen replacing the net on the basketball hoop in front of the palisades home where steve practiced his shots. growing up, kerr says he visited his mom at the house for dinner just a few weeks ago. now it's devastated after learning his childhood home burned down in the palisades fire. thankfully, his 90 year old mother, ann, made it out safely. she's been living in that home since 1969. golden state back at work today, looking to bounce back after a bad back to back losses today in detroit. homecoming for michigan native draymond g

dan and ama, that area is under a red flag warning right now. so let's take a look at the conditions near the auto fire. it is 57 degrees. look at the relative humidity. it is so low 15%. easterly wind at 13. the gusts have been asnd high as 33 miles an hour. looking at the hourly forecast for that region, the windy conditions are going to persist. winds are going to ramp up as we head towards the overnight hours into tomorrow morning, so hopefully the crews can continue to gain ground. there are multiple fires still burning in southern california. palisades fire over 23,000 acres. this is a particularly dangerous situation. red flag warning gusts 45 to 70 miles an hour. relative humidity 8 to 15%. and that red flag warning until wednesday night. this is something that doesn't get issued very often. this is the fourth time it's been issued in the last three months for southern california. it is rare. 39 mile an hour winds right now in malibu. as we go, hour by hour, those winds do pick up as we head into the overnight hours and going into tomorr

. >> and i'm dan ashley. thanks for joining us. there is a new urgent warning about more strong winds in los angeles county. the national weather service issued a rare warning about a, quote, particularly dangerous situation. it begins tonight and runs through wednesday morning.d >> the largest wildfire, the palisades fire, is 14% contained. meanwhile, the eaton fire is 33% contained. >> both have scorched nearly 38,000 acres, 59mi■!s. >> i was at my synagogue, which is based in the palisades, on friday night as we had a service of healing, and over a third of the congregants there have lost their homes, including both of the rabbis. it's just a very difficult moment for us. >> the l.a. times reports that fire investigators are focusing on a hiking trail as the possible starting point for the palisades fire. a smaller wildfire there was ignited by fireworks on new year's eve. >> now, you can see on this map where the fires are still burning and where the mandatory evacuation zones remain. the areas in yellow are the zones where eva

i'm ama daetz and i'm dan ashley. >> thanks for joining us. contra costa county prosecutors are filing charges against mueller over a kidnaping for ransom that left the victim so afraid, they never told police. >> abc seven news reporter j.r. stone has been following this investigation for years and joins us live in studio tonight with the new details. j.r. >> dan, two charges were filed against mueller last week and now three this week. it's all new cases we're talking about. it's wild because mueller is already in prison for the vallejo case with denise huskins and aaron quinn. i still remember that night in 2015 when vallejo police called what happened in their city an orchestrated event and not a crime. they later apologized for that. mueller was arrested and convicted, and now he's linked to even more cases. 47 year old matthew mueller, who's currently serving a 40 year federal prison sentence for the 2015 kidnaping and rape of denise huskins in a case that started in vallejo, now faces three new kidnaping charges in contra costa county.

i'm dan ashley and i'm j.r. >> stone. that new fire is the kenneth fire which has erupted close to homes in the area of calabasas and hidden hills. evacuations are underway. it's already burned almost 800 acres, according to cal fire. >> of course, we're keeping an eye on that. in the meantime, abc seven news anchor karina nova is tracking the other fires and some new video coming in from southern california. karina. >> yeah, a lot to show you, dan. both the palisades and eden fire remain out of control right now. and we have seen the number of buildings destroyed or damaged shoot up significantly today. we also know of the five deaths being reported. one is now attributed to the palisades fire. and this gives you an idea of where the fires are burning. the eden is to the northeast near pasadena. the palisades is more near the coast and santa monica. it's also the larger of the two wildfires, and as of right now, the most destructive. the number of structures burned rose to at least 5300 today. aerial images show home aft

and dan and diane, it's a windstorm of extreme intensity combining with critically dry fuels.that's feeding the firestorms. this is a live view from the palisades fire, one of the largest fires, as you just heard, over 15,000 acres. right now, those winds are picking up 43 miles an hour in malibu. you can see they're very gusty and surrounding areas as well. taking a look at all the fires that are burning there, the palisades fire, as i mentioned, the largest ones. but the eaton fire is right up there, over 10,000 acres. the red flag warning was extended until friday night. the particularly dangerous situation playing out today with the devastation in southern california, they have removed that particularly dangerous situation. red flag warning and now have just put up a red flag warning until friday evening. moderate to strong wind event. those santa ana winds combining with the critically dry fuels. extreme risk remains in that region. as we look at the winds, they will picking up in the next hour over 26 miles an hour. even stronger winds are expected in the overnight hours
