first, dan crenshaw is also with us. good to have you with us today. given your background and the committee you serve on, what have you been told or at least can you tell us that you have been told things and what is your level in confidence in all of this? >> well, i'm not sure my background is useful for this particular situation. and for the answers that we're getting in congress, classified or unclassified. my concern is the president hasn't come out and made this definitive statement. even if that statement is we don't know or we don't perceive any danger. we're in the process of doing x, y and z. this is maybe why we're seeing so many in the last week when we have never really had this happen before. that would be a good explanation as well. there's probably reasonable explanations there such as well, we only just started looking into the sky at these altitudes. so that's concerning as well. do we anticipate this to be the new normal? now that our radars are now angled at this particular altitude and we're paying attention to these regions? are

i think dan crenshaw kind of had this right. he said the following putting up on the screen. it took president biden two weeks to address the american people of violating u.s. aerospace and didn't take a single question. i kind of thought the same thing. this could have been given us a press release. i mean the president when he goes out, he's expected to answer questions on these and not one. your thoughts. >> a couple of things. but, rather it deviated and back to him and his family and business dealings. secondly, you know the president, whether it is the democratic or republican, they are commander in chief but they heavily advised by the military. the military is saying wait, we need to do this and that and he even says that the white house said that they're not going to give all the information because everybody -- everybody is watching and not just america. >> you give a news conference and you go out, you better be prepared to answer questions about it. if you can't release information, don't talk. if you go out there and you need to talk, you need to give information

i talked to one republican, dan crenshaw, a texas republican, he said he stood up this morning and demandedifics from leaders. but kevin mccarthy at this point, he wants to keep the conversation going. he says he doesn't want to negotiate in the press. so the plan going forward is to have a communication and dialogue with the white house, and heading into the meeting, kevin mccarthy said his ultimate goal was to try to get joe biden to at least acknowledge that they are going to have to work out some sort of deal with republicans in order to raise the debt ceiling. up to this point, the white house has said they will not negotiate, they want a clean debt ceiling. they point out that republicans raised the debt ceiling multiple times under president trump without conditions. but they need to get to a point where they are agreeing to negotiate so they can start noel negotiating. this is going to be a long process and the stakes couldn't be higher. >> melanie, thank you very much. >>> i want to bring in chief correspondent katelyn collins, david chelian, and jeff zeleny. david, what do you mak
