dan simon is with us. dan, you've been on top of this case from the beginning. what's the mood in the neighborhood up there? >> reporter: well, i think people are pretty upset that the authorities didn't, you know, discover this case a lot sooner. we actually spoke to a neighbor, his girlfriend called the police some three years ago. she looked over the fence of their property, saw some tents, saw some children living in the backyard, picked up the phone, dialed 911. sheriff's office came out, talked to phillip garrido for a few minutes and then left. so i think when you walk through the streets of that neighborhood, people are angry, saying, why didn't police, you know, catch this guy a lot sooner? >> dan, one of the things i wanted to ask you, and i'm sure you've talked to law enforcement, both on and off the record, i know next thursday on my show, we're doing a story about the wesson family that was in fresno and wound up with very similar situation. the father that had daughters living in tents, had sex with daughters that yielded children, and when he was

we'll meet some people directly involved, but, first, dan simon of cnn is on the scene with the latestas you mention, looking for evidence that tie the garridos to kidnapping that happened 20 years ago. today about half a dozen kad aver dogs zeroed in on a spot behind fill ep garrido's home, and these dogs are specifically trained to pick up human remains, so, obviously, authorities are going to want to investigate that area further and sort of dig it up to see if there's anything beneath the soil. the second interesting component we learned today, larry, is some photos were released that show what the inside of phillip garrido's home looked like. you recall the backyard, the series of tents and sheds. very disturbing to see the backyard. well, the house said inside, when you look inside, it doesn't look any better. it's really filth everywhere. obviously, you are talking about packrats. you are talking about dishes that haven't been cleaned. discarded appliances, discarded furniture. really a mess inside, larry. >> larry: any reports on when we'll get some dna results on all of this?

let's go to dan simon in antioch, california. dan, what's up? >> reporter: hi, larry, authorities are announcing tonight that cadaver dogs found a bone fragment on the property next to the garrido house. garrido at one time according to police had access to the property. again, they found this bone fragment and at this point are not sure if that fragment is from a human or animal. they'll be taking it to a lab for testing. but we should keep in mind that authorities have said they're looking at phillip garrido in connection with the murders of several prostitutes in the 1990s. the second thing we can report tonight is that local police are confirming that they are also investigating phillip garrido as a possible suspect in the kidnapping and abduction of two young girls here in california. those abductions taking place about 20 years ago. their names, the girls' names at the time, 13-year-old eileen micelof, abducted while going to an ice skating lesson, and 9-year-old micahlah garrick thrown into a car outside of a supermarket. in the case of m

our dan simon has more. >> reporter: a couple of developments to report.nificant the first one is, but we want to report that a couple of cadaver-sniffing dogs zeroed in on a patch of land behind the garrido home. now, these dogs are trained specifically to pick up human remains, so authorities certainly want to investigate that patch of land further. probably dig it up to see what's beneath the soil. >> during today's search, one of the dogs gave an indication on one of the areas of the garrido residence. after the dog gave what is determined to be somewhat of a tentative look at the -- or tentative feel for the cadaver, we brought in a second dog, and he also indicated on that particular part of the property. we're not going to say exactly where that part of the property is, but it is definitely on the garrido property. >> reporter: the second element deals with some new photos. of course, everybody saw what the backyard of the garrido home looked like, those series of tents and sheds. well, what you're seeing inside the home really isn't any better. in
