chief congressional correspondent dana bash is here with more. so, dana, what will he say?: well, i was told by a congressional source, informed about what keith alexandre plans to do, that he is going to talk about two specific plots, declassify information about two specific plots that allegedly were helped -- that were thwarted, at least in part, by these programs. keith alexandre, the nsa director, said last week dozens of terror plots were stopped at least in part by these programs. there has been an internal debate going on since then about what they can declassify and sort of the rub has been proving to the american people these programs are worth it when it comes to civil liberties, but also continuing to product sources and methods, which are so incredibly valuable. the intelligence chairman who's holding this hearing, he's been the one pushing this administration, pushing the intelligence committee again to prove to americans that these programs are actually worth it. it's worth it for the government to gather this data about their phone records, about internet us

dana priest, you worked on an investigation of this kind of top secret activity for two years. how extensive would you say it is? >> well, after 9/11 the government decided to vastly increase what it could do, and the size of its intelligence agencies without hiring more federal employees. and the only way that it could do that was to hire more contractors. and we reported and then the government followed up and reported that there were nearly400,0 contractors with top secret clearance. three times that many with secret clearance. so we're talking about an increased pool of people without do swear an oath who understand that they are not allowed to share classified information, who go through at the top secret level pretty intrusive background checks. but nonetheless, you open up yourself to more risk-- risk when you bring on people especially in a quick man their happened after 9/11, when people wanted to increase the capabilities that the government had, and they hired people quickly. and then they got a bottleneck in those reviews of their background and the gao of the gover

we begin with dana millbank. a recent poll from it the "new york times" says 20% of americans say the government has gone too far in restricting civil liberties. 26% say it has not gone far enough. 49% say the right balance has been reached. there's a lot of opinions all over the map. i'm curious to hear what you think. has this surveillance become a necessary evil to keep us safe, or has the government gone too far? >> look, i've been talking about this administration and its secrecy since the very beginning here. a lot of people said, well, that's a bunch of reporters whining. i think we now see what the consequences of this are. that is we're shocked to find out that this extraordinary thing was going on. the president and his administration make all kinds of good cases about why this sort of program is necessary. very few good cases about why even the broad contours of it could not have been made public long ago. indeed, you know, when we're wondering who to blame for this leak, a lot of the blame is being di

dana joins us now on the fast line with her take.on, is this the chance i've been waiting for? >> yes, it is. lululemon, it's interesting, it is unfortunate with christine day. she built up a terrific franchise, grown the company. the next phase is a bigger company, look at the store sales, it came in pretty much as expected but the guidance for the second quarter sales comes in better than expected and still shows that you do have a cult following of this brand. >> why are you giving the benefit of the doubt to a successor that has yet to be named? >> when you think of this business you had the first ceo who was there, bob mears who had experience in being a public company. the second ceo in christine day had wonderful experience in building brands and can attract other talent. when you need next as you're becoming a bigger company, operational issues and think of what they're searching for. they are looking for a supply chain, another merchant. in order to grow this company over the next five to ten years, you need a sophisticated
