danny isn't going, going gone. danny is for fact, gone. let's go to first morning doppler radar again. what we're seeing are pretty good bands of moisture coming on shore. it's going to be soaking wet in ocean city and along the del marva. right adjacent to the coastline, throughout a good portion of this day. tell you what, let's take a look at the current conditions in the area. temps around, 70 hagerstown. 73 baltimore. notice the dew point 71. 73 d.c. 68 easton. 81 degrees right now in ocean city. 64 degrees in hagerstown. 69 westminster. 70 bellaire. kent island 73. 73 degrees in d.c. okay... so the scenario, now, is you've got danny offshore. all day yesterday we were talking about a weather event with three distinct parts. uh, number one, was this warm front kind of hanging over the area. that allowed the moisture yesterday to come into your neighborhood. there's a tropical low filling this thing up. there's this cold front to the west. between the three, that's going to count for this day's weather. the bulk of the rain is going to

marty bass is tracking danny. but first, let's start out with tim williams. >> we're going to talk about danny, but first we want to get to our storms. the storms are in place. pretty much, the storms have been rolling in. what we're dealing with right now. you're seeing heavy rain moving on across the delmarva. right across the stateline. henderson down toward easton, seeing pretty strong storms. we're seeing over near trappe. and over to baltimore county and again the eastern shore. what we're seeing. what we're dealing with, we're looking at for the most part, heavy storms that are going to be developing through the afternoon. the bigger picture shows that these are going to be developing. we'll keep you posted. and as we are looking at the advisory map, while we're really going to be seeing the flash flood watch in effect through 2:00. now, the other story is danny. danny is definitely part of a one, two, three punch. we're going to identify what is going on with this storm. and for now, we send it over to mar

let's talk about danny. danny is the big story everyone is talking about. this storm is still trying to organize itself. we do have the latest update from the national hurricane center. a little early, we get them quickly and put them on as soon as we have them. we have a center of circulation to the west of this storm. but all of the activity, this is the connection -- convection. all of the thunderstorms, when we start to see that happen, we'll start to see intenseification of this storm. right now, as of 5:00. tropical storm danny, still a tropical storm. sustained winds at 52 miles per hour. gusts up to 63, with a movement to the west at 2 miles per hour. that could very easily change, if this storm does not start to move a little quicker. how quickly it gets to our region. i want to show you this. as of the 11:00 update, had danny changing to a category 1 storm as it passed by the maryland shores. if you noticed, it never changed. this storm is having a tough time really getting organized. remaining a tropical storm as of the latest thinking in the lat

not from danny. that's from the boat. >> you know, boogie boarders, surf boarders and a speed boat going by. it's like another day down at the beach. but it not like the weekend. nothing routine about it. we have a lot of activity going on. at first, we'll walk you through. we'll start with the first element in the forecast. we talked about rain moving through. we have a front that has pretty much sagged across our region. it moved across and just draped across maryland about a day or so ago. and now it's lifting back up as a warm front. and with that comes the thundershowers that you're seeing. talbot and caroline counties, both seeing definitely thunderstorms now. and severe thunderstorms are not really in this forecast. but these are very, very gusty. and what we're seeing. flash flood warnings in effect for the eastern shore. for much of the eastern shore, from cecil county really. right on down to the midrange of the eastern shore. these are going to continue to play out. right now, however, our

tropical storm danny. marty has more on what marylanders can expect from the storm. but we begin with meteorologist tim williams, who is tracking the system for us. >> reporter: for as much this storm is going to impact us, it is struggling for its own existence. let's explain this. take a look at the satellite. this is infrared imagery of this storm. as you see, the storms associated with this are all over the place. we're talking about the actual rain, actual winds. primarily to the east side of this storm. what you're seeing there, all of the brighter colors, they are east of the center of circulation. it is very hard to distinguish. it is part of a rotation you see there, off to the left, between those storms. and our first warning bug, right there on the left of the screen. let's talk about the latest update. latest update has danny now, never really getting its act together to turn into a minimal hurricane. that is significant. because each -- even as 11:00, this was turning into a category 1 hurrica

there is danny right there. now the national hurricane center is still giving a prognostication, a forecast of danny staying off the atlantic ocean and making its way up to the north atlantic. however, there is another fly in the ointment that could cause us a little bit of problem. not danny, but a little trough of low pressure is sitting right here over sections of northern florida and down into the carolinas. now what is going to be happening is this little trough of low pressure is going to start making its way northward. it's actually going to track in this direction right there. what that means is that here in the maryland area, the rainfall that we're going to see tomorrow night and during the early portion of saturday, most of it is going to be coming from this system as danny tracks off the coast. these two combine, making their way up the eastern seaboard, will give us heavier rainfall. we're going to be watching that system and that system to find out exactly what is going on. now danny will still cau

it did develop into danny. right now it looks like danny is going to move along the coastline, a little farther out into the atlantic than what they were originally talking about, which is good. we're still going to have some rough surf. we'll still see rain out of it. doesn't look like it's going to be mahay juror situation. let's take a look outside right now. the shot from harbor cam overlooking the downtown area. temperature at bwi thurgood marshall 87 degrees. 48% humidity. wind currently from the west southwest at 9. pressure steady 29.97. there are your tides tomorrow at fort mchenry. a low tide at 8:15 in the morning. high tide after the noontime hour at 12:24. our winds from the east at 6 to 12 miles per hour. the sun comes up at 6:30. we'll set at 7:44. low was 67 degrees. the high today 88 degrees. we did hit our 2-degree guarantee. but look at hagerstown and winchester, virginia. also ocean city, a high today of 94 degrees. current temperatures across the region right now. everybody is cooled off su

sheer what the national hurricane center is saying about danny. right now the winds are down to 45 miles an hour, moving towards the north-northwest at 7 miles an hour. danny is still slated to stay off the eastern seaboard, but as you just heard, we're still going to have some pretty heavy surf all along the coast, and riptides and things of that nature. as far as danny making a hit on the united states, it's just not going to happen. what we are watching is this area of low pressure making its way northward that will bring us the rain. now our satellite pictures throughout the day, quite a bit of sunshine, a few clouds during the afternoon and evening. and then a few scattered showers appeared. there they are right there, stretching from northern baltimore county. down through portions of carroll, howard, montgomery county. right now maryland's most powerful radar is indicating some shower and thunderstorm activity stretching from northern baltimore county down through the manchester area, all the way down through, well, it did hit mount airy. a

so you can't harm them. >>> danny is out of here. >> danny is gone. thank goodness. and took a lot of junk with it. there was a lot of rain scattered around. right now, current conditions are still pretty warm out there. 84 degrees right now, the temperature. and we're talking about 68 is the dew point. humidity at 58%. winds from the west at 5 miles per hour. and barometer now at 29.69. your updated first warning forecast coming up. >>> well, yeah, the temperature and the dew point. it felt much warmer than it got today. 85 is where it topped out. just about two degrees above the average. 71 stayed pretty warm overnight. just a tad over 62. but nowhere near the records. 100 and 47 were the records for this date. ranging from 70 in oakland to 81 on the shore. it's still pretty comfortable in the afternoon, especially considering the type of day we had yesterday, with the off and on rain. and the storms the night before. we have the winds coming from the west. and that is drying us out from all of the rain we had. and that is also ushering us in this cold front. this

danny loses his name completely. still expected to meander along the same northerly event, northeast track over the next 24, 36 hours, coming a beam of ocean city. let's say in the middle of the afternoon. frankly, as a big nor'easter. i'm not trying to diminish the storm which itself is diminishing in its own tropical properties. but even as a low, passing by the area, you gotta keep a watch out for problems like surf, for rip tides, for coastal floodings. and you saw in our watch, warnings and advisories. and you also have to look for rain that gets flown your way, as the low moves on up to the north and the winds come out of the north/northeast. the heavy rainfall threat is going to be well north of ocean city. frankly, it's this low, which right now is over georgia. which tim was showing you, it's outer rainfall. that's going to be the big problem overnight tonight. so it's in this order. one, two, and the third problem is behind me. that big cold front. it's going to be a sloppy friday night, to say the least. m

from the headlines danny's track is important. beaches will have you surf no matter which way it decides to go. the critical times for danny is friday night into 3:00 p.m. saturday. that's the critical time. right now it appears you might get more rain from the front friday than we will from danny. if danny hugs the coast, then we will get rain and some wind in the metro area but it's got to hug the coast and right now, indications are it's going to track a little further to the east not quite as far as bill but generally speaking, should not be a huge problem for us. we will certainly keep you posted. all right, of course we're always on wusa9.com. now, the next seven days, shower or thunderstorm possible tomorrow, primarily west of town, just isolated, 87 and then showers and storms on friday, that's from the front, showers and storms possible on saturday from danny, right now i think generally speaking the showers from danny will not make it west of the bay, maybe left over thunderstorm on sunday as another front comes through,

will be related to danny.temperatures around 83 on saturday. so temperatures go down a little bit. here's the latest. 2:00 p.m. friday, located off charleston coast. gathering some strength between haderus as we get towards new england. i would be paying close attention to this. i think this could be a big storm up there. this track keeps it offshore for us. we are looking at rough seas and potentially some more rip currents. here's the spaghetti plot. we are a lot happier. weather spread out, so there is discrepancy as to where the model thinks danny is going to go. one problem is getting a good center, a good initialization for the models and the center is all over the place right now and that's why the models are having trouble, as to which way it is going to g. danny's track, that's the key. i don't care if it has a name or not. heavy surf for the beaches, no doubt about it. friday night to 3:00 p.m. would be our critical time and we are looking at focus on the track, not the name. if it hugs the coast and

this is danny. it's being called disorganized danny, and for good reason. the center of circulation is actually over here on the left side. it's actually in this quadrant here. what you are seeing here are storms off to the east. what that's going to mean fours is that as this storm starts to progress to the north and northwest, the storms to the east stay away from the coastline. although the circulation is pretty close. this cone of probability is still going to couldn't pretty close passing by we expect about 140 miles off to the east of the east coast, and as, does it we're still going to see the high surf, the heavy waves, and potentially a very light storm surge, but as the storm moves on by it knocks that water back out so we're not talking about any really big problems with storm surge, but we will be talk about higher than average tide as it moves on by. the storm is going to be picked up by some other storms that are going to be moving into our region that we see a front moving by. it's all going to lift danny up and move it into the canadian mari

there is danny right there. just a little area of low pressure that has now developed into a tropical storm, making its way gradually northward. here is what the national hurricane center is saying about danny. currently winds are 45 miles an hour, moving towards the west northwest at 10 miles an hour. currently, 564 miles east of miami, florida. now danny is going to be making his way up the eastern seaboard, and just kind of brush by our area, a little farther out into the atlantic than we were thinking today. but what that means is that friday night and saturday morning, that's when the system pulls by the area. it's going to give us some clouds and showers and high surf along the eastern seaboard. and it does not look like it's going to be a major situation. but again, kind of a little brush with danny going to give us a west end of the week into the first porks of the week. our satellite picture, lots of sunshine throughout the day today. as we went through the day, a few little light clouds formed up. as w

here is what is going on with danny. over the past 12 to 18 hours, danny becomes a little bit more organized today. but still not a major situation. danny is right now just about even with the fort lauderdale area, but already starting to turn towards the north. that's good news. the more it turns towards the north, the better it's going to be. this is what the national hurricane center thinks danny is going to do. danny has increased in strength. the winds are now up to 50 miles an hour. it's now moving towards the northwest at 9 miles an hour. here there is where danny is right now there is florida. let me back out of the picture. this is what danny is going to be doing as it swings its way up the eastern seaboard and barely scoots by the outer banks of north carolina. but the center of the storm and the heaviest winds are going to be on the northeast side. so that's good. that's away from the united states. but that doesn't mean that we couldn't have some very rough surf and breezy conditions, particularly along the e

danny has been losing a whole lot of power. but we're still going to have pretty strong storms like we had last night this morning and this afternoon. let's take a look outside right now. your shot from harbor cam overlooking pratt street, where no, they're not surfing. but they are driving on pratt street. our temperature at bwi right now 76 degrees. 88% humidity. wind continues from the east- northeast at 10 miles an hour. the pressure steady 29.96. there are the tide tomorrow at fort mchenry. sunrise and set. tomorrow's winds from theie at 8 to 14 miles per hour. flash flood watch remains in effect for a good chunk of our area, and flash flood warnings do remain in effect for portions of the eastern shore as well as delaware. that goes -- stays into effect until about 6:45 tonight. and then the flash flood watch stays in effect until 2:00 in the morning. that's because of all the water that has come down. now it's running off into the estuaries, and this could cause some roadways, particularly in some of the rural areas and

there's danny now. i color enhanced the cloud tops the center of circulation to the west of where those cloud tops were. this tells you this thing is undergoing upper level wind sheer. winds 0 miles an hour with gusts to 70. it is north of the bahamas and east of florida by a good margin and the track from the hurricane center takes it from the northwest an the north pretty quickly. show you what it looks like in our neck of the woods. it will be close. the winds 60 miles an hour. moving northwest at nine. by 2:00 on saturday morning, we are looking east of hatteras and elizabeth city. well east, a couple hundred miles and looks like it will go north northeast, perhaps near cape cod and then looks like nova scotia as we get in to sunday, strong extra tropical storm with winds 75 miles an hour. you see the hurricane symbol. that's the difference between a tropical and nontropical storm system. we will watch it. we will have some impact from danny across the region. the beaches, heavy surf starting on fri

down in the tropics, that's where danny is right now. danny has lost some power. the winds were originally this afternoon 60 miles an hour. they're now down to 50 miles an hour. national hurricane center is still showing danny moving off the coast. i should say staying away from the coast out into the atlantic. but it's still going to cause some very heavy surf along the eastern seaboard and rip currents, things of that nature. but the majority of the storm will not directly impact the united states as far as going over the land. what we are watching is an area of low pressure down here in the northern gulf of mexico. that's the system right there. combined with danny as it moves up the eastern seaboard. but that's a system right there that is primarily going to be bringing us the heavier rainfall. now over the past 12 to 18 hours, you can see rainfall spreading up to eastern portions of tennessee, and around our area. a few little light scattered showers across the region. you can see it on our little bit closer satellite picture throughout the day. lots of sunsh

tropical storm danny. some how danny doesn't sound that intimidating.ld be like dan. >> daniel. >> there you go. tropical storm is daniel. danny is doing his thing. can you see him out there. maximum winds about 60 miles per hour. here is the deal. the hurricane center keeps flying planes in here and they are fining some fairly impressive winds off to the north and east of the center. you see here, there is a nice the flare-up of danny. the center of irculation keeps bouncing around. so that really changes the eventual forecast path of danny because we can't get a fix on where it is centered, we can't identifying out where it will go -- find out where it will go. maximum winds, 60 miles per hour moving off to the north and west at about 10 miles per hour. this is the best thinking on this storm as we get to the end of the week and weekend. by about 2:00 saturday morning, it will be off coast of the carolinas. it will make a pass here early saturday morning east of ocean city and up towards the cape and eventually canada ads we get into the day on sunday

an eye on danny.anny is still a tropical storm. it's 40-mile-an-hour winds. it has gusts of to 52, 52-mile-an-hour gusts. it's 390 miles southeast of wilmington, north carolina. as you watch the path of danny, expect it -- you will note that it does curl to the north a little bit more and to the northeast before it makes landfall. maybe even north carolina will get spared, although there will be heavy downpours. you can see the influence close to us as we get to the midday saturday timeframe. again bringing a lot of moisture our way and ahead of it, too, overnight tonight as i was saying, you can expect the showers. as we look at the timeframe, 1:00 this afternoon, this is due to a frontal boundary to the north that is going to bring us showers to the north and west, that before the danny's influence. you see the huge yellow area that is going to move north and east, and that will be the remnants of danny that moves north and east out of our way. take a look at how much rain you can expect. not expect

as danny moves up the coast. >> that's right. now, we've broken this down a little closer to home, to where the effects could be on friday. we have a lot of people concerned with storm surge because of isabel. if there were to be any storm surge with this at all, it would be out of the south. the southerly winds during the day friday into friday evening. but as the storm passes by, it will cut off the wind and turn around to the north. so that's not our biggest threat. rain will start to pick up during the day on friday. potentially heavy at times. now, as we head into saturday, that's when the storm is going to pass by our latitude. and it could be very close to the coast as it does. and it could also become a lower level hurricane at that point. so winds are major concern with this on saturday. farther inland, we could see tropical storm forced wind gusts. that's between 35 miles per hour, upwards to 73 miles per hour. we think it could be on the coast, the potential of hurricane gusts. that means 73 miles per hour. rain becomi

danny is on the way. be concerned about the weekend. >> chief meteorologist has the latest. peter? >> yeah, look at a very interesting situation setting up out there in the atlantic. partly to mostly cloudy skyets. west wind at 8. take a look at tropical storm danny. gathering wind in the atlantic. winds gusting to 58. it will become possibly a category 1 storm as it makes its way up through the atlantic. now we hope it makes a turn arc pretty good turn because it could make a land fall potentially again the carolinas if it were to track further west. we could see a repeat of what isabelle brought potentially if it tracks west. right now is it making a right turn? this is the forecast from the national hurricane center but there is potential to make land fall towards boston over towards providence. we have to kind of keep an eye for that later on in the week towards saturday night. here is what is happening back here at home. clear skies, a few showers north. we will continue to see the potential for rain

so lots to watch with danny.hink a lot of the model guidance will catch up to this storm tomorrow certainly. today's high temperature 92. i might think that it will be a little cooler tomorrow as the front slips on through. our temperature right now still mild at 81 degrees. baltimore 77 degrees. so it is warm out there and our forecast for tonight will only see temperatures dropping to about 71 degrees. tomorrow's forecast sunny, warm, maybe an isolated evening storm. temperature # 9 -- 89 degrees. here's your five-day forecast. david might not be quite as warm as today was which did hit 92. the front will rest a little bit. notice the drop in temperatures for friday, saturday and sunday only near 80 or the low 80s but again there could be some real good rain on those three days associated with not just the one system danny but another separate storm that could be coming through. might impact the ski game on friday night. i'm run the new track and show you the latest thinking on danny on the news edge at 11:00.

now what is going on with danny? over the past 12 hours, danny has been sitting down here there is florida right there. georgia, south carolina, virginia and maryland. danny has just been sitting there. but it has now started to move just a tiny bit. but the thing that has been causing all of our rainfall is the little trough coming out of the gulf of mexico that has been driving tropical moisture up the eastern seaboard. as far as what the national hurricane center is going on with danny, it has now started to move north. it's been stationary throughout the day, and now moving north at 5 miles an hour. packing very minimal winds right newt 40 miles an hour. danny is still going to be tracking up and into the north atlantic. should not batter anybody, except giving some pretty high surf along the eastern seaboard, and also some rip currents. if you're heading down the ocean, be very careful of that. it will not really impact our weather. it will impact the ocean but not our weather. overnight we had some very heavy t

as far as what is going on with danny, well, the news is no news. not much going on with danny. look at the past 12 hours. danny is just kind of sitting there not doing much of anything. just becoming very disorganized. now there is a couple things that you can see on this map that are players on our weather. danny is not really a player because it's going to stay off the coast. what is a player? remember yesterday i was talking about the trough of low pressure down in the northern gulf of mexico. it's feeding in a huge amount of tropical moisture. and there is a frontal system out to the west. s that front makes its way towards the east, it's kind of a squeeze play. it's taking the moisture and squeezing it in here to the midatlantic. that's what is causing the shower and thunderstorm activity. the front will gradually push it off the eastern seaboard. but there is an indication that that front may become stuck right off the eastern seaboard. so when we get to the seven-day forecast, that is a hopeful forecast that could change. this is what the national hurricane center thinks

here is your latest look at tropical storm danny.tropical storm danny, maximum winds, 60 miles per hour. look like in the last few frames there, it is looking a little more impressive. i mentioned last hour that the fix keeps changing. it looks like the track will take it northwest and eventually north and then northeast and it should parallel the eastern seaboard here as we get into the weekend. pretty much guarantee we'll have large surf from the carolinas right up into cape cod this weekend. we'll have to see exactly how close it tracks to the eastern seaboard. could bring some rain showers to the beaches. could even bring rain to the washington area as we get into the weekend. that is why the weekend forecast not yet completely set. our forecast looks okay. partly cloudy skies. scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms back in the forecast today. it will be more humid than yesterday with a high temperature about 89 degrees. win will be out of the east at five miles per hour. here is your five-day forecast. a few showers and t

danny is currently about 400 miles east of the bahamas. and forecasters say it's on a path to clip maryland's coast over the weekend. we have complete first warning coverage of the storm. we begin with tim williams. >> good evening, sally. good evening, everyone. we want to show you what we're looking at here as we look at the enhanced satellite picture. the enhanced just simply brightening the colors to give you a better idea of where the storms are. danny, the center of circulation with this storm, was a little hard to see. it's to the left of all the colors you see there. and those are the thunderstorms that are generating around this storm. they are eventually going to wrap around this storm. and when they do, we expect these storms to intensify. currently, a tropical storm. eventually, we expect it to be a low-level, category 1 storm if not stronger. this will be moving to the west/northwest. winds, sally mentioned, 45 miles per hour sustained. gusts up to 58 miles per hour. what you saw there was danny as it starts to move along the
