surveillance video shows a stranger lurking outside a danville home. he's got a dog with him. the man uses a knife to try to cut out a doorbell camera. at one point, there's a clear view of his face, and then he ends up getting inside the home on alexander lane in danville's west side. the victim tells me, off camera, she and her husband were awakened in their bedroom by the man shining a flashlight, claiming to be from an alarm company. the husband confronted the man, who threw his knife down in their doorway and chased him away. the couple later discovered he had loaded up tools and soda from their garage and put it in their suv, apparently hoping to make a quick getaway. they also found he had used a sharpie to write do not call police, do not panic on their kitchen counter. but the couple did call police. officers chased him but lost him in a nearby shopping center. >> it's definitely unsettling and concerning. it's not the sort of thing that happens in this neighborhood. >> steve smith was awakened by the police activity. >> i heard the tires screeching and the sirens com

napa and danville into the 30s. we've had the dry offshore wind last couple of days. again, it's the moisture and the clouds that are in the air at night, which kind of act like a blanket. they kindf keep the temperatures up. you take that away. now we cool off rather quickly, but not as cold where the winds are ongoing. winds out of the northeast at 33mph at mount saint helena, at times gusts above 50. so the peak of our wind will be just before sunrise tomorrow morning. easterly wind at times into places like santa rosa and napa for the morning. and then as we head towards the afternoon, those wind speeds should start to come down a bit. so overall, monday's's forecas kind of like the weather we had on saturday. briefly gusty into tomorrow morning, including around san francisco and half moon bay and the east bay hills, and then less wind as we head towards the rest of the afternoon. chilly start though. bundle up if you don't have the wind. you may be waking up to those 30s, but temperatures do rebound pretty nicely as we head through the afternoon. as you can see,

danville. a man is in jail after an hours-long stand-off with police monday night.olice responded to report of felony battery at a home on hill metal ace. the suspect identified as kevin say, barricaded himself inside his home. police evacuated nearby homes and they say the man eventually surrendered. 2 teens under arrest in nevada on gun-related charges. this is early december. a woman said she was held at gunpoint, iraq right near nevada, high by a group of teens. but no one was found. then on sunday, a girl was shot in the house when police showed up and the suspect was nowhere to be found. investigators worked in tandem with school resource officers. police then arrested 2 teen suspects one on monday and the other one on tuesday. >> we >> hear all. >> this was the scene in folsom sunday night after a 14 year-old wanted for vandalism was confronted by police. the teenager was on the e-bike and sped through oncoming traffic at speeds of 60 miles per hour. police stopped the chase several times but eventually managed to arrest the boy. he's facing charges of evadin

and danville is close at 34 degrees. there are a lot of 30.grees, and novato is also 33 degrees, so there's plenty to go around. second day in a row. the record low for the city is 29. that happened on january 14th and 15th in 1888. most rain on this date 1.94 and 1878. the record high not that long ago 73 2009. but if you didn't see yesterday, the coldest low ever for san francisco was not 29, which happened yesterday and today in 1888, but 27 on december 11th, 1932. it also snowed that day. that was an official snow day. climate data, san francisco. we are currently the third driest ever. the driest was ten years ago 2015 when not a drop fell, and before that only 0.06 was the second dry. what was the wettest january in san francisco? steve, i'm glad you asked. that goes way back. hold on. my data here 1862 when 24 and a third fell. that was part of the great flood of 1862. offshore breeze. nothing else really going on. i mean, we're just in a really on a holding pattern, if you will, and 30s, some mid 30s, low 30s santa rosa is down to 32.

it is freezing in danville and fairfield, just 1 degrees above freezing. we're also near freezing in much of the north bay, with santa rosa now dipping down to 32 degrees in walnut creek. it is a clear start and 36 right now. we'll stay in the 30s through 8:00, and then at 9:00, you see those temperatures going up as we once again make it back into the 60s, which will be above what's normal when we think about mid january. we're used to seeing temperatures in the upper 50s, but also we're usually getting some rain. so it's been dry and it's also been warmer than average. we'll be tracking that. we'll talk about what's ahead. mike's been looking around to try to save you a little bit of money. yeah. kari folks who remember yesterday we had that great price listed in pleasanton today. report shows that same location is up $0.30. that's 3.49 at gulf food mart, gas and garage on first street. that's the only big leap like that. but again, that value is gone in the north bay. solano county is the low. they have vallejo with 3.59 at national petroleum on springs

and notice fairfield still at 27 danville struggling to get into that 30 mark at 29. and then of course in through parts of boulder creek. so these 30s that you're seeing on the map in the upper 20s is the reason why we are in a frost advisory. but i want to show you the 24 hour temperature change for several spots. so including fairfield, we're running about 16 degrees colder at this hour than we were just yesterday. around the same time, morgan hill, about 16 degrees colder. so if it feels a bit chillier this morning, it is now satellite right now showcasing the clear conditions. thanks to that high pressure that's been reigning dominant keeping us dry. and it's going to keep us sunny through this afternoon. here's what our daytime highs will look like today. san jose 65 degrees in through oakland 63 san francisco i got you in those low 60s. as we inch into the days up ahead. we're still kind of above average for where we should be around this time of year. but again, it's because of this high pressure. so notice the dry conditions that it keeps. that of course, is

look at danville. we're at 32. once again, we've had a lot of these mornings throughout the week. it continues today. and 33 degrees in sonoma and santa rosa in san francisco. we're back down to 47 degrees. cool start. but we've also seen some fog moving around. it has improved slightly, but we've also seen it moving into different areas now. napa down to a quarter of a mile. and we are also seeing fog in parts of the north bay and the east bay. so as you're heading out this morning, maybe some dense fog in spots, but not seeing it widespread and temperatures will be cooler as we see a few more clouds, some breezy winds and highs reaching into the upper 50s, and this weather will stay on repeat throughout the week. really not as warm as we saw recently. we are still going to be dry throughout the weekend much of next week. we're stuck in this pattern, butut it looks like it will start to change by the end of next weekend. possibly by sunday. we could see some bay area rain and some snow coming down for the north bay. it's going to be a cold system as it moves in, but definitely mu

but we've once again made it down below freezing in danville. and it's in the mid 30s for the south county. just in is our drought monitor. here's the update. we're still seeing widespread drought across the west and across actually much of the country, including parts of the northern mountain states. and for the west coast, we are seeing the drought continuing as well as for southern california. no surprise that we've seen a 15% increase in severe drought for these areas shaded in orange, where, of course, we've been dealing with the very dry conditions. they haven't had any measurable rain for months now, and it looks like it's still going to be very dry. now, the relative humidity is another factor in that in drying out the vegetation even more, as we've also been getting those gusty winds. and today the relative humidity and that fire danger is still going to be down to the teens, which is critically low. but look at what happens tomorrow. if it's not going to rain, at least we are going to see a surge in the relative humidity and the fog re

we are down now to 29 degrees in danville. and in livermore it is 30 degrees. so you may even have frost on the windshield or on some of those elevated surfaces as you're heading out and getting this monday started. but then look at where we're headed for today, a high of 64 in santa rosa, as well as ukiah and 60 in san francisco and oakland and 62 in concord, will be in the upper 50s and low 60s for much of the south bay. and going to see this weather repeat for the next few days with cold morning sunshine and some mild afternoons at least through wednesday. but then looking ahead, we will eventually get some rain coming back to the bay area. it moves in on friday and continues kind of off and on throughout the weekend. we're expecting some scattered showers. a lot of it lifting to the north between sunday and monday, and during that time that we will see those scattered showers. the north bay will have the highest rainfall totals, with the potential of 1 to 2in of rainfall, maybe even higher, farther to the north. but most of the bay area is going to get some

more 60's on the map says he noticed in our inland communities while walnut creek and danville, lower 60's there as well as moraga orinda pay a little warmer along the bay shore mid 60's in oakland and berkeley to the north bay. more 60's for you. so very similar temperatures across the bay area and there's santa rosa sitting at lows. 63 there, too. now here's our weather pattern. high pressure is in control. low-pressure just sitting off the u.s. the coast down south there. that's creating those windy conditions. those offshore winds, the santa ana winds that's causing those wildfires. so a quick check the big wildfires here. palisades on the west side of los angeles county. we're looking at 50 degrees right now. humidity is at 30%. the winds right now are 9 to 14 miles per hour or so. at times we see a lull in the winds. but there are still critical fire weather, red flag warnings through 06:00pm this evening and until 03:00pm, there's actually a pds red-flag warning. so that is a particularly dangerous situation. we could see wind gusts as high as 30 to 50 miles per hour and even 7

danville, certainly livermore, concord. all right, that's tomorrow morning's lows and that is probably issue number one. issue number two, it will get a bit windy here on saturday. again, there will be another round of offshore winds. now remember how we saw the chance for rain? not a chance, but a pretty good chance for southern california on saturday. and that's coming from the inside slider, which has wanted nothing to do with rain. but that one will produce some rain. however, it's also going to make it windy up here, not troubling in that fire weather concerning way. if we keep that wide view here, here is today with fairly light winds. now let's transition to sunday. and that is really, think of this as overnight saturday into sunday, where you could see the winds have picked up. we'll do it again, 40 miles an hour gusts at the peaks on the north bay. just about everywhere else. what's up with that? why does this keep happening? when we take a look at how this is put together, let's come back over here. inside sliders

less than 0.1 in san jose, only 0.01 around antioch and brentwood, just over a 0.1 of an inch for danville, just 0.01 in concord, a quarter inch in san francisco and half moon bay with the highest amounts in the north bay, almost a half inch of rain around san rafael with just over 0.3-inch of rain in napa, of course, most of that falling in the past 12 hours. here's the current radar perspective. there's not much here, a couple little sprinkles left over. futurecast does indicate the potential for a couple showers to try to redevelop and run north to south across the bay area through this evening into tonight. this is likely the wettest case scenario. i think it's probably overdoing the intensity of those showers and how widespread they would be. even if they do develop, they'll be long gone by the time the sun comes up tomorrow morning. we'll be seeing that dry weather taking over as we head through the next several days. if you're thinking okay, the dry weather taking over means it's time to head up to the mountains where they added up plenty of snow, put the brakes on that literally be

we're at 50 degrees, and we cleared out earlier in the day around walnut creek into danville and alamorees currently. and as we head into san jose, it's still pretty soupy outside at 52 degrees. and this is the little pocket of gloom in the forecast. look at the low clouds right there. santa clara valley down into morgan hill. now the good news. if the wind in terms of the fog, that's going to help us out tomorrow to help mix in some drier air and break up the low clouds. but short term, the evening and the first half of the night, the fog will fill back in. but then as the drier air mixes down, notice back into the sunshine for places like san jose tomorrow. so first up, the wind speeds by 11:00 tonight. offshore winds increasing across those north bay hills. peak wind right around midday tomorrow as we could get gusts on the higher peaks, probably above 45 to 50mph. up to 20 to 30 mile per hour winds around the north bay valleys down into san francisco. then, as we head into tuesday, those wind speeds should come down for areas to the south. similar time frame here. wind speeds at th

but that's just about it. 60 in martinez, 62 danville and low 60s in hayward. right here through daly city 61. palo alto 62 san francisco 50s from the marina to the mission, back towards the outer sunset. and for the north bay 62 in ukiah, back here towards napa, we're at 60 rainfall chances. they'll start to get here once we head into friday's forecast. i think really for the morning would be around guerneville, santa rosa at about 8:00 in the morning. then we'd see this move pretty quickly here to san francisco by 11 a.m, also around concord. then this would march down towards san jose by 1 p.m. and we are expecting this to get out of here. certainly late friday afternoon into friday night. so not going to linger too long. and that's why we don't really see totals going that high. i think overall the average here is about a quarter of an inch.h. so no problems expected with that rain as it arrives. will just be nice to kind of add a little bit more in the rain bucket as we head into this weekend. we are dry upper 50s and low 60s and so far we are dry. as we h

east bay today cleared out pretty nicely from walnut creek down into danville, but no clearing. san jose, look at that. socked in at 51 degrees. this is the last area of low clouds really thick down towards morgan hill. now notice the trend here with the fog. it will fill in a little bit for the first half of the night, and then it starts to fade away because we've got the wind picking up and that's goingo mix in the drier air. begin to break up the fog. but watch these wind speeds overnight. in the north bay mountains, gusts from 30 to 45mph. so by the time we get to lunchtime tomorrow, everybody should see those dry offshore breezes. but the wind speeds not too extreme around the bay area. they'll be coming down as we head into monday evening and monday night. and with those wind sheltered areas you're looking at patchy frost possible for tomorrow morning. this includes san jose tri-valley up towards those north bay valleys. and then as we start to see the sunshine and the warmer temperatures tomorrow afternoon, less low clouds, lingering means mostly 60s for highs tomorrow. m
