darcy spencer has the latest for news 4. >> we have confirmed that a little girl was in the car when that triple shooting happened. she's just eight years old. fortunately she's okay and police have made an arrest. the car came through here. you can see the sign. it was taken out as well as the fire hydrant. over here is the church across the the street. that car slammed into the overpass here. now the video here is the car where the three shooting victims were found. there is a hole in the windshield. we're told two men and one boy in his late teens were shot. one of those men has died. now police later arrested 36-year-old jimmy fleming of northwest d.c. he was arrested on "w" street a few blocks from here. neighbors say police surrounded the house for hours and eventually took the suspect into custody. one resident told us he's not surprised. >> actually, it used to be like this a child back. i've been here like 27 years. so i'm used to it. >> d.c. police have just released the name of the man who was shot and killed in that car. he's been identified as 21-year-old thomas. he live

firefighters have been trying to put it out for more than an hour and darcy spencer is live there with the latest. >> reporter: we're standing right around the bend from where that fire is happening. a lot of streets are blocked off with fire trucks and hose line. this is as close as we can get. the good news is no one was hurt. no one was home in the house where the fire started and no firefighters have been injured. it's 90 degrees. it's hot out here. this went to two alarm. part of the reason to get additional firefighters out here because it's such an intense fire. let's go to some of the video. the fire started at the back of one of the townhouses here and then it went through the roof of that house. there was, as you mentioned, a partial roof collapse. now fortunately as i said no one was hurt. but some families have been displaced from three townhouses, five adults, five kids. some pictures were shot. you can see the flames that were shooting when he first arrived. let's hear from the chief. >> no injuries at this time. it's 90 degrees out here which is pretty rough for the fire

news 4 darcy spencer explains why some cases it's not just the heroin that is killing those users. >> reporter: beth smith's son, shawn, died of an overdose just days after his 23rd birthday. at first she thought heroin killed him and then she found out it was fentanyl, a synthetic drug mixed with heroin to purify the drug. >> so, actually, we found his dealer. they could be charged with homicide because you can't survive something like that. >> reporter: fentanyl is being blamed for a spike in heroin-related deaths in maryland. in just the first quarter of this year, there were 252 overdose deaths. that's a 33% increase from the same quarter last year. 148 were from heroin. >> and when you use heroin, you're playing russian roulette with one bullet. when you have fentanyl that you don't know that you have you're playing it with six bullets. he had no chance. >> reporter: it may be hard to believe, but health officials say having someone die from an overdose makes that drug and the dealer even more attractive. >> they think that that person that they bought it from is selling more pur

darcy spencer is live with the details. >> reporter: we are live in the 1400 block of rhode island avenuen northwest. according to the court documents the victim was heading back here to her hotel after celebrating her birthday. it was during that ride back here that she says she was sexually assaulted after she passed out. the 25-year-old new york woman had gone to the lux lounge on new york avenue in northwest to celebrate her birthday with friends, but that celebration turned into the worst night of her life. she says the uber driver hired to take her back to her hotel on rhode island avenue on northwest sexually assaulted her. the woman told detectives she had several drinks here to celebrate her birthday. according to these court documents she says she doesn't remember much and that some things are a blur but she definitely remembers she was sexually assaulted. she says she passed out and when she woke up the driver was rubbing her breasts. she fell back asleep and woke up when she heard the doors lock. the cab was stopped and the driver once again was touching her and pulled down he
