darcy spencer is live in centerville with more on the investigation. darcy? >> reporter: erika this is really frustrating for people who own these vehicles that were vandalized vandalized. we are live on lee overlook road. if you look here this tells the story of what happened in this neighborhood last night. we received a tip from a viewer who lives right here in this neighborhood telling us that up to 35 cars and vans had been vandalized with this spray paint somewhere between 9 and 10:00 last night. it looks to me we saw several ourselves on the side of the vehicle that faces the sidewalk but looks like someone may have been walking through this neighborhood with a can of spray paint painting and spray paining up to three dozen vehicles. let's hear now from one owner who came out and found his van vandalized this morning. >> this morning we were getting ready for church and i live down the street right here a little bit. and i noticed that there was some spray paint on my minivan. so i decided to take a walk and see if any of the other vehicles were vandal

darcy spencer is live in centerville talking to one person whose truck is absolutely charred. my goodness that is something else. >> reporter: it certainly is. we're live along heart forest drive and you look along this street, just the devastation. can you imagine getting that wake-up call early this morning that your vehicle has been torched. we'll hear from the opener of this -- the owner of this pickup truck in a moment. he said police came to his door at 4:00 this morning and this is his girlfriends car parked right in front of him. that car was torched as well. fairfax county police say the fire -- the arsons happened around 4:00 this morning. seven vehicles in all were torched in neighborhoods within about a mile a mile and a half from one another, on four different streets. that is heart forest drive laurel rock rock forest drive and rockland drive and let's hear from the owner of the truck. >> i was woke ebb up at -- woken up at about 4:00 in the morning learning that my vehicle was involved in a fire. >> what did you think when you came out and saw this. >> the first

darcy spencer is live where police got the call. >> reporter: good morning. a little bit of good news. i just talked to anne arundel county police on the phone and they're telling me that this baby girl is doing okay. it sounds like she was not hurt which is amazing considering what happened to her last night. they're saying she is suffering from a little bit of tee high dehydration, she's still in the hospital, but again she's okay. we're on dr chltuitt hill avenue. a very quiet street. people here in shock that something like this would happen. let's go to the picture of this baby girl. she's two to three months old and she was found in a car seat in a carrier on the side of the road here just before midnight last night. now, police are saying that there are scuff marks and debris on this carrier that indicate that maybe she fell off of a moving vehicle. they're trying to figure that out. again, she was taken to the hospital. we were able to talk to numerous residents here who had no idea something like this had happened on their street last night. >> at ab

he tells news4's darcy spencer, he couldn't believe what he saw. >> in the back of my mind, we said, wow, what is the world coming to? >> reporter: bishop raymond shillwell found a baby girl in a car seat in the middle of the street as he returned from church on the fourth of july just before midnight. >> when we went out and checked it out and then we said, oh, wow, somebody's actually left a baby here. >> reporter: the baby believed to be two or three months old did not appear to be hurt. >> she was just sitting there quietly at first but then when she saw other people around, then she just started crying and we said, well, wow, i don't know who would have done something like that. >> reporter: there is no sign of what happened on this quiet street last night, except for this some formula that spilled out from the baby's diaper bag. by late morning the baby's mom came forward and was being questioned by police. >> we don't know right now if foul play was involved. we don't know if this child was tossed out of a vehicle. we don't know. >> reporter: the discovery of a baby on this st

darcy spencer shows new video shah shows the suspect moments before and after the crime. >> reporter: prosecutors say this just released video shows metro murder suspect jasper spires. he was wearing a red bandana, carrying a nike backpack, running through the station after allegedly stabbing a man to death on a train. at one point you see him stop and turn around, when an investigator testified. they ran to a trash can shown at the far top right of your screen and dumped a bloody knife used to kill kevin sutherland. they say in his haste, spires dropped items including a pair of camouflage pants and kept going. earlier, in a series of videos, spires put on a pair of gloves as he got to the top of the escalator before the crime and again before the killing. the video allegedly shows spires at the fare card machine looking for victims to rob pretending to get a fare card and following a couple as they walk away. his attorney calls it a case of mistaken identity. >> none of the witnesses that were on the subway have identified my client as the perpetrator. >> reporter: they are confiden

news4's darcy spencer spoke with neighbors about the concerns. >> reporter: the bars and restaurants on 14th street in northwest d.c. draw big crowds on weekends but just a block away on riggs street between 13th and 14th street a man in his 30s was gunned down early saturday morning. >> i want to see police on their feet walking these sidewalks. >> reporter: jeremy peters is a reporter who lives on riggs. he says police need to show more presence and there have been a number of violent incidents on and around the street over the last couple of years. >> if people knew there were this many violent incidents happening steps away from one of the busiest pedestrian night life thoroughfares in the city they would be alarmed. >> reporter: police identified the victim as 35-year-old charles douglas. he lived in prince george's county. he was the third homicide in the district overnight. this neighbor had no idea it happened. >> too close for comfort. scary. >> reporter: d.c. police statistics show there have been 77 killings in the district so far this year, compared to 65 at the same time

we want to go straight to news 4s darcy spencer learning about the details of what exactly happened there. darcy. >> reporter: ericka we just got an update from the fred wreck count -- from the frederick county sheriff. a horrible story playing out in the county. a husband and wife both stabbed. the fortunate news is that a suspect is in custody. let's go to video we shot a short time ago. to show you this was in a very remote area here in frederick county. the facility is the anna counseling center part of the korean church as we're told. two victims stabbed. a man and a wife. that man was pronounced dead on the scene. his wife was flown to shock trauma in baltimore. we're told she is in serious condition. the suspect as we have been reporting in custody. apparent lowly he had been staying at the center for five days. counseling and residential component to this facility. something happened there about 7:45 tonight during the service is happening at the time. police received two 911 calls. one of them from the suspect himself. >> he left the property said, i'm alone on the road waiting f

news4's darcy spencer joins us from the newsroom with the virginia man's name and the new details about the wreck. darcy? >> reporter: erika the second victim has been identified as kenneth jefferson of chesterfield, virginia. there was a prayer service held today in richmond in his people rained today, we are hearing for the first time from the leader of that motorcycle club about this tragedy. the bikers were on their way to a motorcycle rally when the driver of a tractor trailer apparently fell asleep at the wheel and slammed into six motorcycle riders. they were all part of that club. they had stopped along the shoulder of the highway because one of the bike also a mechanical problem. that crash happened about 6:30 friday morning on i-85 in the greensboro area of north carolina. the victims were members of the black eagle riders club. they were on their way to a bikers' rally in atlanta. police there say daniel serna, pictured here, play is fallen asleep behind the wheel of his big rig when he crashed into the bikers and kept going. police previously announced that arnie morris of w

news4's darcy spencer live now with some strong words from the wooten principal tonight. darcy? >> reporter: well, jim, news crews were not allowed inside the vigil which was held right here inside the high school. we're told the parents of both students who died were in attendance. and the principal here at the high school does have a message about this tragedy. students and parents walk in to wooten high school for an emotional memorial service to remember two recent graduates killed in a violent crash last week. herb singh attended with his granddaughter. >> we do things what can be some bad consequences. but this is life. >> reporter: michael doran is the principal at wooten. he says he worries what can happen to teens between high school graduation and the start of college, like when this wreck happened. >> they're not yet at college where there is routines again and it's kind of a time when they're at loose ends. they feel invincible. and that 100 days or whatever it, i wish we could just put them in a box and not let them out. >> reporter: the teens crashed just before mi

darcy spencer is live with details. >> reporter: jim, the death of this little boy has shocked the haguerstown community and beyond, a life taken over a piece of cake. residents decided they had to do something, so they gathered tonight to remember jack at hagerstown city park. those attending wanted to raise awareness about child abuse. a pastor led the group in prayer and hundreds of candles were lit. everyone wore blue ribbons in jack's name. blue is the color designated for child abuse prevention. jack's mother's boyfriend handcuffed him and beat him for taking that cake. charges could be upgraded. jack was found with cuts and bruises all over his body. he died after the assault. tonight, we spoke with the woman who organized the vigil. >> i'm a mother and i wanted to make sure this child was honored in the right way. i'm tired of seeing this in the news. it's here. it's real. and three cases in the past few months. we've got to change. we've got to do something and come out as a community. we have to make a change. >> reporter: a lot of tears there tonight at that vigil. the suspect in th

news4's darcy spencer showed us how the family is working to keep drunk drivers off the road. >> reportereck point held in la plata dedicated to the 20-year-old after being allegedly hit by a drunk driver. >> i have no problems that people want to drink or party, however, getting behind the wheel is not the right thing to do. >> reporter: tommy jenkins is autumn jenkin's dead. he hopes to send a message. >> maybe we can get them off the streets before they injure or kill someone tonight. >> reporter: the family is here with this picture of autumn. they want to make sure drivers know what this check point is all about. jenkins was driving home from a restaurant when the crash happened last april. she was a volunteer with the nanjemoy fire station. that station crew responded to the crash. the police roll call, packed with family and friends. and the humane society brought one of the dogs she loved from the shelter. >> a lot to focus on. as far as educating the public on the effects of drinking and driving. >> reporter: the family won't stop their education efforts here at the check point.

news4's darcy spencer live now near the crash site with more on the victim and how this crash occurred. darcy? >> reporter: jim, initially, we were told that she was actually changing the tire, but when i talked to family members today, they say that was not the case. we now know she was out here on the parkway near stanton road with her boyfriend last night, standing close to him when she was struck and killed. as you said, the driver now facing some serious charges and we learned that she lost her husband nearly one year ago. 33-year-old tomica early was struck and killed last night. family members say it happened as she watched her boyfriend change the tire on their car. they say he didn't realize at first that she had been hit here along the suitland parkway in southeast. he found her body 50 feet away. we spoke to a close family friend. >> you know, it's just so sad you know, when i got the call 5:30 this morning, it just touched my heart. >> reporter: police sayer lives hit by a man who was behind the wheel of this blue pickup truck. the driver identified as 52-year-old robert pa
