news 4's darcy spencer just got to the scene and joins us live with what s's darcy? >> reporter: erika, i can tell you i'm standing on columbia park road but the shooting itself happened right here on columbia place in the 2200 block. prince george's county police still waiting to provide specific information. but what we do know is that it happened in the 2200 block this evening and that a male was shot and killed. that male suffering a gunshot wound to the upper body. we don't have an age yet on the victim but i was able to talk to some young people who were standing over here on the corner a short time -- >> was he outside? inside? i would say probably -- we had just told him come with us. >> what was he like? >> he was nice. always looking out like a little brother like. i don't see what he even could have did to live, prince george's county police again not confirming that the victim in this case is a teenager but that is in fact what we are hearing from neighbors who live right here on this street. at this point we don't know what this was about. prince george'

news 4's darcy spencer just got to the scene. darcy, what are you learning? >> reporter: well, erika, we're still waiting for prince george's county police to give us an update on what exactly happened out here tonight. first let me set the scene here where we are. we're along southern avenue, along the d.c. prince george's county line. we're right near the intersection with sable street. you can see that this street has been blocked off. there are police cruisers lining the area here. from what we understand, there was a potential exchange of gunfire between a prince george's county police officer and a suspect. at this point they don't believe that the bullet took effect. in other words, they believe that the officer fired but they're not aware of that shot actually hitting someone. and fortunately, no officer was injured in this incident. again, we're still trying to gather information in terms of what exactly happened. but police are coverage an officer-involved shooting. that suspect is still at large. we'll continue to follow this and bring you any upda

darcy spencer just arrived at the scene. what can you tell us? >> reporter: we have been able to confirm one fatality. a second victim with life-threatening injuries. the fire taking place at this house on south grant street here in arlington county. fire officials telling us there were boarding conditions inside the house. firefighters had a difficult time getting through the front door and reaching the victims. one person was initially pulled out. then they found the second one was pronounced dead. another taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. we'll now talk to frank mill we. he is a neighbor. he knows the couple who lives in this house. we don't know who died but he'll tell us what he saw. >> basically all i saw was smoke and a lot of fire engines. i never saw flames. but i did see smoke coming out first over here and subsequently over there. after they broke through the windows. it seemed to have changed direction a little bit. but not much more than that. >> reporter: we're not identifying the people who died and who were hurt.
