now, police in this criminal complaint, which is the charging document for daron wint, they call this driver a witness but they say over and over again that he admitted that he did lie about certain details. again, where he dropped the money, why he dropped the money, whether or not it was in a locked car or unlocked car. another discrepancy is whether or not he was physically at the bank when another employee removed that money. when you hear the police chief talk about whether or not other people were involved, this person is an employee of mr. savap och savapolous and we know daron wint had also been at one point an employee of the company and that brings the question whether or not these people knew each other and whether or not this person was just an innocent bystander delivering potentially a ransom or whether or not he knew what was going on. fred. >> sara, are investigators saying anything about this witness or entertaining things like might this person have been nervous and maybe that's why they got certain facts misconstrued or was there a language barrier? any kind of bene

wint's girlfriend has been questioned she's still there and has been here for hours. sources tell news 4 a woman believed to be the girlfriend of quadruple murder suspect daron dylon wint has been at the new york city police department's 69th precinct for much of the day. she is said to be talking to detectives but is not under arrest. it's an example of the extraordinary working relationship between d.c. police and the nypd. >> i was notified this morning by chief lannier, a close personal friend as well as professional colleague, that they had information that the suspect that they were looking for who has been identified through dna at the residence of the crime may be located in new york city area. >> we do believe the person was in brooklyn at some point and he has some relatives here some friends here and we're investigating that with them right now. >> sources tell news 4 that investigators believe wint traveled by bus to new york but may have gained access to a vehicle at some point. it is not clear exactly how long after the horrific murders of savvas and amy savopoulos and their 10-year-old son philip and housekeeper vera figueroa that wint fled the d.c. area

here he is again, daron wint he once worked for mr. savopoulos. they have dna evidence placing him at the crime scene and reason to believe he is here in new york. a lot could change in the coming hours. first the latest from pam brown. >> reporter: a major break in the case came wednesday when atf forensic specialists received dna on a pizza crust. and a nearby dominos franchise said they left food at the door unaware a family was bound, duct taped inside. >> it showed an element of calm that the person didn't feel rushed. >> and the assistant dropped off $40,000 in cash and told not to come inside. philip savopoulos had stab wounds and was killed before he was burned beyond recognition. >> certainly a sudistic killer and the son may have been used as a tool to make sure the parents were compliant. >> reporter: his girlfriend said he fled on a bus to new york last night. >> just about every law enforcement officer in the country is looking for him. >> reporter: we're learning more tonight about wint's past. he served briefly with the marines but

daron wint is the only person charged in the murders so far. >> but the documents say wint and others held the family hostage until $40,000 in cash was delivered thursday. and we know that one of those witnesses changed his story. news4's shomari stone is live at d.c. superior court. tell us what you've learned so far. >> reporter: well these are new allegations in the court documents. for the first time we are hearing that mr. wint, according to the court documents, and others, i must emphasize others, held the savopoulos family overnight before they were killed last week. wint's first court appearance is over. he is held without bond. he did not issue a plea. a judge ordered him to provide a dna swab. the facting u.s. attorney did not answer my questions when i asked who the other suspects are. are they persons of interest? who are these people referred to as others in the court documents? the documents also reveal a witness told police someone was driving savvas savopoulos' stolenor porsche eradically in d.c. before it was torched in new carrollton behind that church. what's also i

. >> i'm derek mcginty. 34-year-old daron wint appeared before a judge this afternoon. investigators believe his crime was so elaborate it would have been impossible for him to carry it out by himself. stephanie ramirez is outside the savopoulos mansion now. what do we know about who else might be facing charges? >> reporter: i can tell you this. the home now is still a protected crime scene. part of reason is because they are looking for more suspects. we know police caught 34-year- old daron wint with five other people, but the other people were questioned and released. it's in these charging documents that say the crimes described in this affidavit required the presence and assistance of more than one person. but on friday it was a smaller 5' 7, 155-pound daron wint appearing before a judge in a white jump suit and chains. he said his name and then looked down. the charging documents discussed today in court revealed more of the gruesome discovery last week inside the savopoulos home where investigators found 10-year-old phillip savopoulos in an adjacent bedroom and

marshals worked two days searching for the suspect daron wint and the team almost caught him in brooklynaded back to the d.c. area. last night marshals say they spotted wint and five others leaving a hotel in college park maryland. commander robert fernandez joins me now. he leads the u.s. capital area regional fugitive task force. to clarify fou viewr viewers, the police and detectives invest gate. you and your team go and get the alleged bad guys. that's what you do? >> correct. >> what put you on the track to new york? >> we got the case tuesday night and started doing research on mr. wint and the possible locations of family members, previous addresses, criminal history, everything. wednesday we did interviews. we did surveillance. a lot of investigation and we realized that he was possibly in brooklyn new york. >> from phone records? from the fact he had a former girlfriend up there? or what can you tell us? >> a culmination of a lot of different investigative techniques. some specific techniques i'm not going to get into, but it was a lot of just really good investigative work. >>
