darren? >> that is a very good way to put this, brian. there is more, but in relation to what we had, it's not much more. if you look what's going on on the radar on the far northwest part of the bay area, a few light showers up there, barely anything. that's not the next system. let me show you what the next system looks like. we'll get a wide view from midnight to 6:00 a.m. tomorrow when we'll see the arrival of this next rainmaker to bring widespread rain, but with nowhere near the intensity of the last storm. remember, we're looking at midnight through 6:00 a.m. it keeps going from there. i just wanted to get you to the start of this. this is going to be in the north bay up until sunrise tomorrow. so your morning commute is going to be a wet one up there, but it does continue from that point on. the rain works its way south and goes down the peninsula, gets down to the south bay through the remainder of the afternoon, so just a quick follow-up on that. here's what it looks like in totality just to watch that system come in and stop it

now it's time for a look at the weather with darren bett at the weather with darren. hello there.noon, but things will take a turn for the worse overnight and into saturday. it's then that we have this red wind warning from the met office, meaning a danger to life. the winds are going to be gusting 90 miles an hour across western and southern parts of wales through the bristol channel. the warning is from 3:00 tomorrow morning to 11:00 on saturday morning. and as well as a danger to life, there's going to be some travel disruption. there may be some power cuts and there'll be some large and dangerous waves as well. it's all happening out in the atlantic, but getting closer to us, that area of cloud deepening into this area of low pressure and that is storm dara bringing some wet and windy weather already into some western parts of the uk and pushing into cooler air. temperatures are not going to be as high as they were yesterday. as follow the track of the storm, it's going to push right the way across the uk, sweeping rain in from time to time, bringing a spell of heavy snow over

for now back to you. >> thank you, darren. >>> the holiday travel season continues today. this year we have heard some predictions this would be the busiest week of holiday air travel on record. there have been some hiccups, however, but bay area airports seem to be holding up pretty well. checking the latest flight delays and cancellations, so far today san francisco international airport has seen 244 delays, 11 canceled flights. oakland international has 46 delays, four cancellations, san jose, 58 delays and just two cancellations. nationwide the tsa expects to screen nearly 40 million passengers from december 19th through january 2nd, but the weather is not entirely cooperating. we've had some scattered showers all week in the bay area and there are severe storms also striking the south causing airport disruptions. >> some of these potentially severe packing damaging winds, hail, and even an isolated tornado can't be ruled out. >> i am nervous about that. it's storming in houston, so we'll see. >> for those hitting the road today, aaa says the worst traffic delays will

darren, can i just get a final thought from you on? authorities said this morning when after they had arrested him that he was not on their radar. does that indicate to you that that no one from his family or his friends saw these photos recognized him and called the police or or can we not read into that? >> well, it's difficult to discern if people in his family knew or they didn't know, but the reality is we had tips and the public is the greatest asset for police. and it was that mcdonald's worker that brought this to fruition based on what they saw in the poster that was plastered out through the nypd that showed the the image of his face when he let down his guard and showed his face. so that being said, i think that it's fortunate that we have that symbiotic relationship with police and community and just one quick point. i see strong parallels between brian kohberger and the suspect in this case as it relates to the sensationalism of individuals that don't have a criminal record but they're very bright, but they seem enamored b

meteorologist darren peck is tracking the rain here in the bay area. looks like a bigger storm on the way. >> yeah. so one foot in the sierra tonight. by the time we get to sunday, 4 feet total from now till then. >> that will make a rough return down the mountain. >> if you're coming back sunday. we'll get to the winter storm warning in a second. there's like a solid 48 hour period where you don't want to be driving in the sierra. it's going to be a mess. it's a good looking storm coming our way and i'm not even talking about this. this is storm number one, the leftovers from last night's storm. this one's fairly light by comparison, but if you look where we are now, you can see there are scattered showers just about anywhere bay area-wide. these are all fairly light. i'm going to remove the rain a second because this actually pales in comparison to what we had come through overnight. look how much rain we got. this goes back to about say 11:00 last night up until about 30 minutes ago. it was pretty good. this outperformed, got a little more rain than

let's bring in darren porcher. he's a criminal justice expert and former nypd lieutenant and cnn law enforcement contributor, steve moore. he was a supervisory special agent with the fbi. darren, let me go to you first. i mean, one aspect of this that is unusual, surprising. i don't know how you want to describe it, that the shooter was a girl, a 15 year old girl. what did you make of that? >> jim? absolutely. this is an aberration. and when we look at a reflection of violent crime in the country, it's far more males than females that perpetuate acts of violence. so this runs consistent with that demographic. but when we look to a shooting of this magnitude or these school shootings, there's a significant component that's missing. and that would be a programmatic review, because in wisconsin they have a tip line. so if someone believes that they were the subject of bullying and harassment, they can call this tip line bullying. harassment are the number one, um, the number one complaints that come into this tip line

as for how it all changed so quickly today, meteorologist darren peck. >> yeah, we've had high pressure around for the last several days. what was it about today that caused the air quality to go down thil so much? you can see the pattern when you look at this map. there's clearly worse air quality in the central valley. and then if you follow the pattern, tracing it from the central valley to the bay, in other words, the parts of the bay that were close es to the central valley are the parts that had the worst air quality today. that is a clue into what happened here. this might not have been entirely all our fault. in other words, all the wood burning fireplaces that are usually responsible for poor air quality this time of year when we get under centers of high pressure like, this i think we got an imported mass of poor air coming from the central valley. let's get over to the virtual set. we'll take a look at what the winds were doing at 11:00 this morning when the smoke started to -- it had really been infiltrating for several hours at this point. watch the way the wind's moving ov

we will talk with a couple of folks and then no, lexi rigdon and darren porch or ahead of.ther outside is frightful. millions of people across the upper midwest under winter storm warnings as the region braces for the heaviest snow fall that they have seen this season. fox weather brandy campbell lives in sheboygan where it is supposed to snow. what is it looking like where you are? >> i'm a tell you one thing, this is coming just in time for the holidays. like you mentioned before the holidays, bit is starting to look a lot like christmas. snow falling from the northern plains going to the northeast eventually. here in sheboygan a beautiful sight as you see the snow slowly following down under the surface is. winter advisory until 12:00 and potentially 5-8 inches of snow to come for us and only a couple of hours since the snow has started to follow. i can show you how much has accumulated to. this might be an inch of snow. this is the early stages of there. but around the town, you can see on top of the waterways, a nice layer of snow covering. maybe they have ice covering

darren peck will be in at 5:30 to dive much more into that subject in detail.he heart of the storm system. more showers will be possible into early afternoon. finally, that activity starts to die down heading farther into the afternoon and evening, looks like by saturday evening showers should be pretty sparse, if not gone entirely. then we get to enjoy the dry break as we hit the second half of the weekend. the strongest winds will occur overnight. it's going to be blustery everywhere across the bay area, particularly along the coast. that's where the high wind warning is in effect where winds will be in the 40 to 50-mile-an-hour range, gusts possibly up to 60 miles an hour. the winds will be noticeable even as the rain departs. so 20 to 30-mile-an-hour gusts tomorrow afternoon. then the winds calm down tomorrow evening and tomorrow night. in the sierra this is a good snowmaker, talking about a foot to 2 feet of total snowfall above about 6,000 feet in elevation. the rain/snow line sets up around 5,000 feet, more likely seeing several inches of snow at that le

>darren>yeah. and so here we are. and the weather is going to be a little complicated. let's take a look at the details of what you need to know as we head into this pre-christmas weekend. quiet weather for one more day. another day of some very stubborn fog, especially east of the oakland hills. but then some changes on saturday as the first in a parade of storm systems is going to move in. this is going to be light to moderate shower activity on saturday, but there are going to be subsequent systems monday night into tuesday and another one next thursday for the day after christmas that are going to bring stronger winds and heavier rain to the bay area. outside you see that smudge of brown on the horizon. air quality is a bit of an issue today. temperatures only warmed up to 50 degrees in concord. livermore just gave up. know the sensors stopped working, but temperatures in san jose and santa rosa managed to get up into the low 60s, which is above average for this time of year. just really depends on how much that fog broke up, if at all. and it's going to be an issue
