dave cortese facing off against city councilman sam liccardo. janine de la vega tells us that liccardo currently holds a slight lead. >> reporter: yes, he does. but right now we are at the santa clara county registrar's office. i just spoke with the registrar of voters. they stopped counting at 4:00 a.m. with 100% of the precincts reporting. it shows sam liccardo has a lead. so there is just a 2% difference there. so there are still thousands of ballots, absentee ballots that need to billion counted. right now this is too close to call. last night at liccardo's event his supporters were watching the event and cheering. they have been neck and neck in the mayor seat. liccardo's aid say they are being cautiously optimistic. they have not officially declared victory. now again we learned that those ballots will not be counted over night and instead that process will start later today. we have reached out to cortese and so far nothing official has been put out. nothing is saying that he is conceded at all. cortese could still have a chance. they wer
