i'm dave clark. >> i'm tori campbell. it's tuesday, february 7th. >>> we are following breaking news in newark. that's where a police officer was shot just about one hour ago. ktvu's allie rasmus is on the scene. so allie, what have you been able to find out? >> reporter: well, this is the intersection near betancourt and mayhughes landing. most of this block is completely closed off to traffic. there's tape and law enforcement in the distance. we've seen them with residents presumably getting more information about what exactly happened. when i talked to a dispatcher, she said information came in about a law enforcement officer. what we don't know is if that officer is with newark police or some other agency. an investigation is underway. there are a lot of units out here. it looks like out off distance -- off in the distance, there are staging tents. beef told that officer douglas will provide a statement in the next ten minutes. we have calls in to him. we're waiting to get information. we do know that at 5:50 this mor

i'm dave clark. >> i'm tori campbell. it's monday, february 20th. and this morning's wet roads may have been tied to a freeway tragedy. let's go to sal. >> this crash happened at about 4:45 this morning, along northbound 101, the connector ramp to the eastbound capitol expressway. the ramp was closed at 5:00, as the suv came off the turn, didn't negotiate the turn properly. one person was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. other people -- there were eight people in the vehicle at one point. the other seem were hurt, too -- people were hurt, too. another person is in critical condition at the hospital. several others were taken to the hospital for observation. the ramp from 101 to east capitol expressway has just reopened. the police were able to clear the scene. the ramp is open. no one appears to be using it. here comes one of the first cars to use the ramp. paul chambers will have more on this crash -- coming up at about 7:0 -- 7:30. back to the desk. >>> we're following overnight news from oakland. police are investigating an officer

i'm dave clark. >> i'm tara moriarty. it's tuesday, february 21st. >>> one firefighter is being treated for heat exhaustion after an early-morning fire in castro valley. tara moriarty is live with more and it appears the fire seems to be tied to anmal -- animals in the garage. >> reporter: this device was used to keep a pair of african tortoises warm. it appears that device malfunctioned. the call came in just after 3:00 this morning off almond road. flames shot through a nearby bale of hey. the animals -- of hay. the animals escaped unharmed. >> it's a horrible thought. i'm just glad they had the turtle brain to move. >> reporter: one firefighter suffered overheating and exhaustion. he was transer inned to the -- he was transferred to the hospital. that firefighter is expected to be okay. no one else was injured in the fire. six crews responded and were able to knock out the flames within a couple of minutes. crews estimate the damages will will tal -- will tally about $50,000. back to you. >> thank you, tara. >>> police

it is thursday, february 2nd, i am dave clark. >> thank you for joining us, it is 6:30. >> well woulders pulled out a gun and he started shooting back. it happened in east oakland. claudine wong joins us from the scene with exclusive video and she also has more on what family and police are saying this morning, claudine wong in. >> reporter: well it all happened and when we got on the scene this is where all the evidence markers were laid out. this was a gun battle they say and when it was all over, the victim and suspect had been hit. i want to show what happened when the victim was taken from the scene. they say the 32-year-old always worked the night shift. >> he usually locks up at about that time and it was right at about the time they were closing up tonight. >> reporter: well it was not clear at first if the suspect had been hit as well, remember there were two of them but shortly after police say a man was brought to the hospital with gunshot wounds. the suspect and victim at least were both in stable condition. >> reporter: that was the victim's brother, he was holding his br

. >>> we will smile and say good morning to you, it is thursday, february 16th, i am dave clark. >> and i am pam cook 6:30. >>> investigators are expected to expand their search for human remains. the bones are tied to a serial murder case that may involved several victims. near the town of linden we have more disturbing details emerging. >> reporter: convicted serial killer wesley howard shermantine led investigators to this site saying his accomplice, loren joseph herzog actually poured gasoline down the well and lit it and that will make it harder to determine who the victims are. investigators do believe they have hit the bottom of this well and they found very few remains in the half dozen piles dirt they scooped up yesterday but since over the weekend they have picked up over 1,000 bones and bone fragment. loren joseph herzog and wesley howard shermantine is believed to have killed many people. wesley howard shermantine is on death row and loren joseph herzog committed suicide. wesley howard shermantine believes they have a map of where they drew some of where the victims are. >>

i'm dave clark. >> i'm tori campbell. it is friday, february 10th. investigators are trying to figure out what sparked an overnight fire at a lumber store just before 3:00 this morning at rafael lumber and building supplies. paul chambers is live with how firefighters were able to get the flames under control. >> reporter: good morning, tori. within the past hour, the crews have actually left the scene. as you can see, they have turned it over to the people that work inside the building. they are cleaning up the inside and outside. they had to go in through the front door but you can see they are now cleaning things up. it took about 35 firefighters to fight the flame. then the flames were leaping 30 to 40 feet in the air when they arrived. crews were able to get this under control within an hour. there's paint and lumber inside the building, highly flammable pees of equipment. investigators say things could have been much worse. >> it was quite a bit of lumber and storage on the outside of the building. we're not sure how it started. about 35 firefi

thank you for joining us on ktvu channel 2 morning news, it is valentine's day, february 14th, i am dave clark>> and i am pam cook. police are investigating a terrifying shootout at a strip mall. five people are hurt including a three-year-old girl. it happened on springs road near maple. tara moriarty has more information about the gunman who walked into the nail salon, tara? >> reporter: they believe that gunman did not act alone, he was with somebody else when the shootout began and they believe the duo had an intended target at this nail salon. now the violence erupted just after 7:00. they walked in with a gun, shot a woman and then returned to finish the job and that's when the girlfriend's friend returned fire. the girl and the mother and the toddler were also shot and a woman next door described the panic they felt. >> i got on the floor to protect my baby, it just got louder and louder. >> reporter: the child was airlifted to a medical center. the girl was shot in the knee and twice in the stomach. she just underwent surgery and is expected to survive. they recovered dozens of shell c
