want to get the bottom line with cnn senior political commentator david axelrod. can i start with today before we go back about what we saw last night. what do you think today will tell us when the whole house will vote on whether to strip marjorie taylor greene, the qanon supporter, of her committee posts? >> well, let me just refer to your intro there. the question is whether this is a post-trump republican party. kevin mccarth is a finely calibrated weather vain when it comes to politics. and what we learned is the prevailing winds still come from mar-a-lago. he was resistant to do anything about her. he has been very tepid in deal with her, you know, outrages, and i think what you're going to see today are a bunch of republicans doing what republicans have done lately, which is seek safe harbor in precedent. seek safe harbor in procedure and say, well, you know, we think what you said was vile but we don't think this is the proper way to go. this will set a bad precedent. they'll say she said these things before she was a member of congress so, therefore, she

and let me now bring in cnn senior political commentator david axelrod, a former senior adviser to the obama administration. thanks for coming on this sunday. what did the impeachment trial vote to acquit donald trump of an act even mitch mcconnell admitted trump was guilty of say about the future of the gop? >> well, look. what it says is where the prevailing winds are coming from within that party. the only thing that i would say in dispute of what suzanne just reported is i don't think the party's that divided. i think the party is very much in trump's camp. he is an 80% approval rating in the republican party. more republicans adhere to the basic tenets of qanon in polling than believe that trump was responsible for what happened at the capitol on january 6th. and so you saw that reflected in the votes. there were seven republicans who were willing to stand up against those prevailing winds, and they're going to be facing the kinds of things that senator cassidy did. but 43 of them thought that the better part of valor was to go along. so, what it means for the republican party is

cnn political advisor, joining us, david axelrod and ann milgrom. ann, how would you describe what you heard today? from the house managers. >> yeah, it was an incredible day. and i think a painful day, to sit back and to watch this. and to really take in the 360 of what happened on january 6th. up until today, i think i had read a lot about it, i'd seen pictures of different pieces of it, but this was the first time it was brought home altogether. and what kept going through my head, anderson, is what fiona hill said, this was an attempted self-coup, donald trump was trying to preserve his power and stay in power by any means that he possibly could. it was ultimately not successful. but as i watched that today, all i could think was just how close he came, and how much he orchestrated this, as the house managers showed, starting in june and going through january 6th. and so, i thought the presentation was masterful, i think a lot still to come it was very, very painful to watch. >> david, minds remained unchained today, senator lindsey graham calle

and former obama senior adviser david axelrod. it's a pleasure to have both of you gentlemen. good evening. david first. david, this new reporting shows that trump knew his supporters were storming that capitol. he did nothing to stop them. isn't that alone a violation of his oath of office? >> yeah. look, there's plenty of evidence of him violating his oath of office. this is additional. it would be interesting to know exactly what the timing of that call was. one of the most interesting points of the day, it seems to me, don, was when senator cassidy from louisiana, a republican, asked if the president knew at the time that he tweeted that pence lacked courage whether he was under siege. and his lawyer said at no time did he know that. and he essentially was calling senator tuberville, who was on the phone with the president at that time and told him that they had just evacuated the vice president, and the president tweeted after that. he essentially put a bigger target on pence's back. there's plenty of evidence that this president violated his oath in many different ways. w

i also want to bring in our chief political analyst gloria borger and our senior commentator david axelrod. we've now heard many clarifications from the white house and president biden on school reopenings, teacher vaccinations. there is still some confusion out there. what is behind the confusion? >> i think what is behind the confusion is politics here. you have the teachers unions who are supporters of the president who say very clearly they want much more and not any less. they want teachers vaccinated, and the white house has said look, we'd like teachers vaccinated too, but it is not a prerequisite to opening schools. where they agree is that you have to have a lot of preparation to open schools. you have to cleanse the schools, you have to make sure that kids are masked, you have to practice distancing. et cetera. but you can't make sure all kids are masked unless they are in the school. so i think that it is a complex issue and that the teachers unions are saying to the administration, you know, wait a minute here, we have to make sure the kids are safe, we have to make sure their

i want to go to lieutenant general, former commanding general for europe and david axelrod, and formerenior adviser to president obama. so, what do you make of the timing of this strike? obviously doing your first strike is something that you know is going to be significant, pickup headlines, make a statement. this is what president biden has chosen to make that statement with. >> i'd say it is a proportional response based on the attack at the airport that oren talked about on the 15th of february where a contractor was killed, several people were wounded. and it was an attack on the u.s. base in a very peaceful part in the kurdish republic. and what's interesting about this is there have been other attacks. there is continual harassment by iranian militia. this is a signal so it is a proportional response to the iranian government. it is disconnected to a degree from the nuclear efforts that president biden is going to attempt probably in the near future as phil just said. i have to tell you, this is just interesting to me because there are dozens of iranian-backed militias within ir
