joining me now is former congressman and executive director of the serve america movement, david jolly me democratic strategist bassetts michael. thank you both for being. here david, explain to us how the desantis scandal is colliding with the five respeaker, a crucial vote for kevin mccarthy? >> yeah, interestingly. in terms of how a house speaker is anointed, if he. will they have to crossed a threshold of 218 votes. it doesn't matter if there are three, four, five, or only one candidate. they have to cross tonight in 18. house republicans right now have 222. meaning, kevin got you can only lose four votes. he already has five who have said they won't vote for him. now, can he move just one of those? maybe. but even if he does, he needs george santos to be seated. because, george santos has expressed his support for kevin mccarthy. so, kevin mccarthy appears poised to overlook all of the scandal and controversy around george santos, accept the republican congress and acceptance vote for speaker. i would, say corey, if kevin mccarthy can't get, there and i'm not convinced he can get

his big board, vaughn hillyard is in georgia, also with me, greg bluestein and former congressman david jolly is no longer affiliated with the gop. steve, take us through what we saw last night, some of the trend lines that you're seeing. >> it ends up being for raphael warnock a three-point victory over herschel walker. i think there's a couple major stories here in terms of how this came about for warnock. remember, initially back in november in the preliminary, warnock finished a little less than a point ahead of walker. he expanded to nearly three points. how did he do it? he squeezed more votes, more support out of the core democratic area which is the immediate atlanta metro area. warnock getting 62% of the vote in gwinnett county. this county has been zipping from republican to democrat. it voted in the 2004 election for george w. bush by well over 25 points. now it's a core democratic county. warnock got 62% there last night in november. he got about 59%. so he increased -- he improved his performance in a major vote-producing democratic county. that was part of the story we saw throu

david jolly is a former republican congressman from florida, eight tara setmayer worked as a republicanons director on capitol hill. they join me now. welcome to both of you. thanks for being here. tara, let me start with you. donald trump has worked very hard to paint the january six committee as the witch hunt, the heart of the witch hunt if you will. he's got a lot of other problems. his fortunes are sinking for other reasons. the demonizing the january six committee has not seemed to have gotten any worse, or has not helped him anymore recently. what have people thought about -- like they have thought about it for the last couple of years? >> it's mainly because i think it's difficult for trump to whine about the january six committee when event majority of the people who were deposed and the witnesses we heard, the transcripts, the video depositions, but testimony, if they were trump people, they were his people. it's difficult. so, all of them are in this big conspiracy now to victimize him in some way? the evidence is just so overwhelming and i think that part of the attraction t

. >> i think what you have david jolly teasing out there is undoubtedly a conversation that has already happened or is continuing to happen this weekend among members of the committee. there is the reality of what they choose to do, the way it will play out politically, the way it will play out historically. i do want to ask you, because i thought this detail got, at least for me, kind of buried in all the news that was happening on friday. you are chairman thompson hinting at the possibility of new evidence ahead of monday's hearing and i wonder if you have any sense of what that could be and what questions you sort of have unanswered. >> i don't know if they have real new evidence or if they have held back something significant to make a splash. they have been good at bringing up things that people didn't know that they still had up their sleeve in previous hearings. so, i am loath to say i don't think they have anything new. but i don't know what it would be at this point. they certainly have not been, and i a high-profile way, taking a new information. so, we will need to say about

. -- and former republican congress in from florida, david jolly, both are msnbc political analyst.ere have we seen this before? didn't kari lake when anything from trump's failed election fraud claims? >> she did not, apparently. i heard my brother michael -- from morehouse i'm saying that he thinks it's a good thing because it gives you an opportunity to lay out pleadings, and show that they're not subsistent i show that there's really nothing there not only for her, but for all of these election deniers claims in the bin of trump. i actually don't think it's a good thing because it continues to sow seeds of distrust, of government, and election processes. something that all of us on both sides of the aisle for a long time have really worked hard is to preserve election integrity. to make sure that elections are handled. fairly won an election is handled equally and it's carried out judiciously. what we don't need is one of the two major candidates going to these expense, wasting taxpayer dollars, wasting how much of professional folks times to show that it was illegitimate when i
