seems almost like a long- term trend prosecutor violent crime to be reducing in the dc area and other major american cities. i'll also say there are some american cities where crime has gone up a little. and we have to avoid simplistic explanations such as people not engaging in crime so frequently. i want to say one thing to begin with. this is my mantra so i apologize for that. and that is, you know, crime stats are reasonably good indicators of actual crime, but there could be other things operating. number one people might be less inclined to report crimes that are taking place. also, too, police may be less able to uncover and or respond crimes that are occurring. so that may be reflected in the official crime rates. we know that for at least cybercrime many people don't report that simmization. property crimes where people feel they are not going to be able to make an insurance claim. they are not going to report that to the police. so that's part of the parcel. one explanation we have heard and certainly was part of the earlier segment was the relationship between the economy and crime. >> you would
