nbc 10's deanna durante is live on the scene for us. tell us what the latest is. >> reporter: look behind me, vai, you can see the school bus still inside this home on windermere drive here in blue bell. we're told it will be some time before they can pull the bus out of the house. they first have to shore up the home to make sure it doesn't collapse around the bus. now, one thing we have heard over and over as people have come by to check out the scene is this could have been a lot worse. nine kids on board that school bus, ranging from kindergarten to eighth grade, and they are all okay. the 58-year-old bus driver we're told is being treated at abington hospital while whitpain township police try to figure out what happened here. it was 7:40 this morning when the bus jumped the curb, went through the home. people inside the home were on the other side of the wall when the bus came crashing through. we're told the bus not only came through the front of the house, but tires are down into the basement of the home. that's why the township

deanna durante has been on the scene since the violence erupted. >> you talked to at least one of the hostages? >> reporter: he says he's okay. his mother and fiancee came rushing here when the fire department was still a crime scene. you can see police have now released the fire department back over to the fire company. just within the last half hour they have released the name of the 25-year-old suspect. they say his name is paul jordan. he came in this morning with a loaded .9-millimeter gun and held some of his former colleagues hostage. >> my son called me and said tell them i'm okay. i said well, okay for what? he said well i'm one of the ones that came out, i'm one of the hostages. >> reporter: police say the siege began after 10:30 this morning. a man with a gun walked into the lamott fire company holding firefighters hostage. >> one male was holding four males hostage in a basement with a handgun. he fired one shot into the wall. >> reporter: police from all over the county responded to the area. in the end, the cheltenham hostage negotiators got him to surrender. a volunteer

deanna durante is live in middletown township. >> what did you learn about the driver who was going in the wrong direction? >> reporter: we've learned he is still in the hospital tonight. he was the most seriously injured. police tell us that that accident happened between the route 213 exit and the i-95 exit along the northbound lanes of route 1. they say that bucks county man was driving in the wrong direction when he caused that crash. in the video you hear the skidding and the crashing. police say the man behind the wheel needed to be cut from his vehicle before being taken to st. mary's hospital. that's where he is right now. now investigators say they're busy interviewing the victims and witnesses. they say that's going to take time. according to middletown township police chief. >> there were a total of seven people involved in the accident. there were seven crash victims. six of the seven were transported to local hospitals with injuries. >> reporter: investigators say they didn't need to see the video to know the driver was going the wrong way, but they say they do not yet kno

nbc10's deanna durante is live from the overbrook section. >> reporter: 51-year-old james stuhlman lived on this street for ten years, maybe a little more. they say it was 35r9 of his routine to come out here and walk his dog and it was less than two blocks from his house that he was standing on his street when he was shot and killed. >> this is a nice neighborhood. you can see i walk my dog around here all the time. >> reporter: it's a neighborhood where everyone seems to know each other. all day long people are out walking their dogs. it's not a place where people say they fear being robbed or killed. >> it's unbelievable. >> reporter: philadelphia police say they're searching for answers after james stuhlman took his dog for a walk and never came home. the husband and father was shot and killed less than a block from his house. his money and wallet were found on him and his dog stayed by his side as he lay on the pavement. >> if anyone has any information, if they saw anything please contact our unit. >> reporter: today police are hunting for more surveillance video and searching thro
