biden's hopes for a more muted defense department. i just would love your thoughts on the general, as a pick. and might his reticence, if you would even use that word, in this particular role, not be an asset? >> well, i think he's a great pick for secretary of defense. i do know and have known him for a long time. he is a very thoughtful leader. very, very smart. and he thinks thing -- thinks problems through, very comprehensively. he's not afraid to look for advice and -- and counsel from the outside to -- to make his advice and his decisions better and richer. and i think -- i think he wil y be a superb secretary of defense and i think he will probably do it in a way that is more understated than what we've seen in the past from some military commanders, some former secretaries of defense. and look, the important thing is does he fit with the president-elect? it's really important the commander in chief have, in his secretary of defense, somebody that he trusts. somebody that shares his world view and his policies and is -- and is
