we're speaking to ismael dejesus. ismael tells us the shooter drove up in the black suv or the dark suv. you can see there started shooting wildly at an intersection. a police officer quickly engaged him. and then what happened after that, ismael? >> right after the first officer that responded was actually the officer that was fatally shot, this officer without any fear, he didn't care. he went -- he went up and stood up to that pillar, he was you know engaged in a firefight. came up to the back of the assailant, shot a few rounds. was not able to damage him or wound him at all. the assailant then turned around, came around the corner. the corner to where the back of the officer was. and he ended up shooting the officer point blank about maybe a foot, half a foot away. was just point blank. there is no way he was moving -- then stood over the police officer as he was down, and then shot him another three or four times in the back. and then extremely, extremely saddening and tragic to watch that happening. >> stand by

commissioner dejesus? >> that's where i was going. was it all of us? are they noticed meetings? so the noticed meetings? >> what we did last time was we noticed meetings geographically throughout the city. it was five locations. >> we did three. >> we noticed meetings and what happened was only three commissioners were present. there was an initial presentation by the police commission secretary about the process and we sat there and we listened to the people from the community about what they were looking for. it was all public comment with a little bit back and forth from the commissioners which was great because we are not constrained like we are here, but we literally had conversations with the community about what they are looking for and with the chief and able to go back and forth. it was scheduled well in advance and locations throughout the city so everybody has an opportunity. and with three commissioners you get more information. >> i was also present for both, the first time for commissioner sparks we all went to these community meetings. it was tedious. when you wer
