delia goncalves is live. are police filling in any more details yet, delia? >> reporter: details are sketchy at this point, still very early on. police aren't telling us a whole lot of information but we do know at 5:45 this morning, that barricade situation came to a peaceful end. the armed suspect we're told was rushed to the hospital for, quote, evaluation. we don't know much more beyond that, but we can tell you no shots were fired and that the weapon has been recovered. police are not telling us much more but take a look at the scene. you can see it's clearing now at this point. the area around the avery park apartments reopened to traffic. you can see that some morning commuters are heading for work. residents who were evacuated from their homes are now beginning to return to their homes. police, though, still investigating. we know this started around 10:30 last night. this suspect hold up in that apartment for more than seven hours. it started at 10:30 when police were trying to serve an arrest warrant. not much detail but we can tell residents that t

delia goncalves is live on capitol hill with more on that this morning. good morning, delia. >> reporter: good morning. mike, andrea, it appears we were here live on capitol hill just two weeks ago talking about a compromise. remember that? well, now we're back and it seems that those talks that had so much promise, well, they seem they've come to a screeching halt. now congress people are pointing the finger among increasing pressure to strike a deal before the january 1 deadline. they're now blaming each other for stalling talks that could send us off a fiscal cliff. in a surprise visit to a falls church family, the president emphasized he will refuse to sign a bill that does not raise taxes on the wealthy but republicans say that's a deal breaker. his stance they say proves the president is not interested in striking a balanced deal, simp in spending more and raising the debt ceiling. but the president says his main concern is certainly the middle- class families of america. he does not want to burden them with the potential $2,000 a year hike in taxes.
