host: congressman adam schiff has been quick to say it's time for devin nunes to step down. the washington examiner saying both should step down because of the politics in the house committee. if you look at what this house committee has been doing and compare that to the senate committee, what are the differences? the house intelligence committee and their investigation of the potential coordination between the trump campaign from associates and the kremlin, their investigations has essentially devolved into a partisan slugfest. behind the scenes, they are doing serious work. they have gotten tons of documents, they are brought in powerful witnesses who are on hand for many of these controversies. the enormous, dramatic fight between devin nunes and adam schiff has overshadowed that threatened some ways to potentially delegitimize it. on the senate side, the senate intelligence committee, headed by a republican, working in tandem with mark warner, the top has not had that whatsoever. richard burr has kept his head down through this, he has not publicly sniped with mark warn

and devin nunes is from california. adam schiff is from california, as are eric slalwell and jackie speiers. the house process was blown up almost as it started. that's one thing we should keep in mind. every day the people have been questioning devin nunes' credibility and also a day that adam schiff has been attacking the process. meanwhile, again, being from north carolina, i have to point out my old boss senator richard burr is chairman of the senate intelligence committee, that committee has preceded a pace as it should have, moved slowly and methodically and it is also been largely free of controversy and i think we sometimes forget that. >> and a.b., how important will that be when we get findings from both committees, the way this played out publicly, house versus senate, how much could that potentially impact the way those findings are viewed? >> i think doug is right. senator burr is to be commended for the fact that he has really not been tainted by this process. he has not engaged in street fighting partisan

republican devin nunes as you suggested is far from backing down in from his assertions in the memo. he asked the judge in court to take the extraordinary step of turning over transcripts from the court. nunes wrote to the honorable rosemary collier quote the committee found that the fbi and doj failed to disclose a specific political actors paying for uncorroborated information that formed a substantial dissemination of this information and failed to correct the errors in the subsequent renewal. nunes is setting a deadline in fact of next friday for the court to turn over those transcripts because he believes those documents will show the obama administration abused its power. in fact, some republicans who have seen the democratic memo say part of it actually is an attack on nunes, focusing on that instead of actually rebutting the facts in the republican memo, martha. >> martha: that's interesting. ed henry watching all of this unfold with me tonight. joining me now matt gaetz member of the judiciary committee. welcome back to "the story." good to see you tonight. >> good to see you

and yet his advice to the president to not release this memo certainly not in the version that devin nunes has prepared shouldn't be done and he believes that that is -- that his advice is being disregarded. in fact, the republicans are sort of casting this as some kind of partisan fight including sort of tarring the reputation of christopher wray. he has not threatened to resign i'm told from talking to people familiar with those conversations. he's not directly threatened to resign but he certainly let people know that he is very frustrated and i think that is what's causing people some people at the white house to be very concerned that if this memo comes out and we expect that it might come out in the next day or so that chris wray could say that he's had enough. again, the white house doesn't want this. they do not want another vacancy of high level. they know this will be politically disastrous. >> reporter: we do know that there is frustration as evan was saying and the fbi director has indeed voiced that frustration directly to white house chief-of-staff john kelly who we are told
