you know how much disney plus is important to this company. on thanksgiving weekend, they are really trying to make a statement and have everybody talking about it. emily: that is what i was going to ask, because it was supposed to come out and theaters in august. why not put it out on streaming in august? chris: it was originally supposed to come out last year. it just has to do with competition and schedules. thanksgiving is actually kind of a time when disney releases some of their bigger movies. frozen came out then. but given the lag they have had with not being able to produce any movies the last year, they have a problem with content, so they have to fill these windows. whether it's in theaters or on tv or on streaming, with these big events, things that get people talking. emily: so, what are the other big pictures that disney has coming up for the rest of the year? because if you look at what is happening in theaters right now, it's certainly interesting. and it does certainly seem that only a certain kind of audience is going back. c

most obvious is walt disney.ed by strength of disney plus and stock shored once cleaned up the bounty now should be about reopening of theme parks. parishes came back last week and return of movie theaters with first-run disney movies. no if i were ceo, i would call whichever team wins the nba championship, invite them to disney world for a huge celebration and try to hang out with them too, and hold back movies from the streaming service to get people excited about the theaters again too we are the company for entertainment outside the house. but easier for me to recommend six flags, doesn't hold a candle to disney but it's all park, don't have to worry about the slow growth rate of the streaming service. that's why disney's got a broken stock. got to stop it from becoming another espn dragged down for years after peak remind people the rest of the company exists and perfectly poised for reopening even with moderation in the rise of disney plus straightforward reopening play, planes airlines, southwestern, delta

so yes, of course it's applies to disney. even one of the republican legislators at the time was asked about why they put this loophole because it was a last minute addition. and he basically said the exemption was included so that disney plus the streaming service isn't caught up in this particular legislation. and remember, you've also got universal studios which is down there, and that's owned by comcast. they have their own network of entertainment channels as well as streaming services. so it looks as though florida which relies heavily on tourism dollars as you know, and disney and universal, those are big tourism draws and they provide a huge tax base for the state. so i think they were looking to protect those interests, and they've even said if i, for instance, somebody said, well, what if facebook wants to come in and be a theme park? it'll be zocker land. could they get out from this? is this an exemption? and they said if they were to do that, then they would go back and tweak the law and keep them from, you know,

did a brilliant job of launching disney plus, getting credible traction with over 100 million subscribers. looking going forward, this is a company with unique ability to monetize content across a variety of platforms as we see the parks reopen, cruise ships begin to sail again, movie theaters reopen, we think it's just going to create an experience for consumers to get the full disney experience and i think this is an experience that feeds off of itself, where more visits to the park are driving more visits and subscribers to disney plus and so on, more purchase of licensed goods. if you look it at the company on the parkside, they have been optimizing profitability of the parks and optimizing guest experience i think at the end of the day disney comes out in a much stronger position than they ever were prior to the pandemic, where they have better profitability at parks, the disney plus franchise. we really think there is a continued opportunity here and the stock really has not done anything this year. it did have a decent year last year certainly. >> sure did. >> there are still thing
