happening right now, a statewide shutdown for dmv. dmv offices are at a standstill because of a computer glitch that brought down the entire system leaving some people lined up with no place to go for hours this morning. n nbc bay area's bob redell is live in santa clara with the details. bob, good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, marla. the dmv computer system for the entire state went offline, shut down around 7:00 this morning. they do not know yet when it's going to be coming back online. and this shows you just how much we rely on machines. but because of this computer crash, it is effectively shutting down their offices throughout the state like this one here in santa clara, which is why you've got long lines of people hoping that it comes back online soon, even though they don't know when it's going to happen. so the dreaded trip to the dmv isn't wasted. some people aren't even bothering. dmv workers here say roughly about 10% of the people have given up waiting and gone home. the dmv is still conducting driving tests
