my inside source tonight is canada's minister of finance and intergovernmental affairs, dominic leblancank you so much for for being here, sir. after that call that happened today, is it clear what canada needs to do to to get these tariffs lifted? >> i think. >> it. was a. >> constructive conversation. >> miss collins, my. >> i. >> spoke to the. prime minister. >> after the call. >> my understanding. >> is that they agreed that secretary lutnick. >> and i would. >> continue to work on ways to go forward. i spoke with the commerce secretary, howard lutnick, um, a couple of times this afternoon. so we're going to continue to talk to our friends in the american administration. um, canadians are understandably quite upset, quite emotional by what we think is a completely unnecessary step taken by president trump that will hurt the canadian economy. of course, we think it will also hurt the american economy, and it will prevent the two countries from working together on shared prosperity and shared economic opportunities, and dealing with threats like, for example, coming from china. so we'

. >> we heard canadians finance minister dominic leblanc has been talking about how he is close to rollingut fiscal stimulus to help support consumer spending within canada. what are you looking for him to unveil and will that move the needle enough to prevent a recession? >> at this point, we don't have any forecast for fiscal stimulus. the canadian government itself is in a point of transition right now. with the current liberal party electing a new leader this weekend, actually so it is very difficult to tell, very early to tell what kind of stimulus will be rolled out in the coming week let alone in the coming months or years. especially if these tariffs remain in place. what i will say is, i mean, it does look like we are in a new environment for trade. again, even if these tariffs are lifted or even if there are an additional exemptions for canadian industries, we are in this era of heightened uncertainty when it comes to trade with our largest trading partner so it is a shift for the canadian economy but it likely does not necessitate a full-scale fiscal response. it is more retooli

the first time that the prime minister and his finance minister, dominic leblanc, went to see president trump and mar-a-lago, he actually wasn't president then. there was this comment made that it got out to the canadian press and to the public about trump using about canada being the 51st state. at that point, people, i think, were prepared to see it as a comment that was made in jest. people were sitting around. it was a social event, you know, not no big deal. but he keeps saying it. and so now i think it's not so much that people think it will happen. it's that people think he's serious when he says it. and so there's a sense that the relationship has been broken. we can't trust the partnership with the u.s. as we have before, because he seems to have this expansionist motive in his back pocket. >> and, of course, we saw trudeau fire back with that blistering speech. i just want to play some of that sound. >> they've chosen. >> to launch a trade. >> war that will. >> first and. >> foremost. harm american families. they have chosen to sabotage their own agenda that was supposed to us
