i'm don lemon. thank you for joining us. developing news in louisiana where rising water from the flooded mississippi river is uprooting thousands and thousands of lives. new video just into cnn. this is from our affiliate wbrz. earlier today two more gates of the morganza spillway were opened doubling the rate of water now pouring into the basin. this is the first time the spillway has opened in nearly 40 years and all the people in the president path of this water, about 2,000 of them, have been ordered to evacuate. the deadline to leave is right now. the rising water is now pouring into st. landry parish and it is extremely dangerous. alligator, snakes and other wild animals are being flushed out of their habitats into residential areas. officials warn that large gators won't think twice about grabbing a human. let's go to the st. landry parish of crop springs. ed, what do you know? >> reporter: well, don, we are in one of those neighborhoods that got the mandatory evacuation orders a few hours ago. as you look around her

don knapp in fairfield. don? >> reporter: answer, the dead are two men and a woman. police say one of the dead men is the shooter. anyhave a weaponment now they are gathered outside the house as they try to work on the motive and understanding of what went on inside the house that led to the violence. an open door with a broken jam shows where fairfield police entered this home after getting a call that someone inside had shot residents. >> when officers enter the residence they determined there were two that were shot and ultimately were later determined to be deceased. there was one that was shot with a critical wound. that person was transported by air ambulance to an area trauma center. >> reporter: the critically wounded person later died. police say he was the person doing the shooting. a fourth victim was treated at hospital. police are not releasing names or details but say they believe they have all the people that were involved. >> some of the occupants inside the house we believe lived there but i don't know if everybody involved actually lived at the resi

don nap on what police believe happened. >> reporter: police broke a window to enter this house on venus drive. >> once they were inside, it's then they started checking the residents. up stairs they found the male and female deceased. we found the shooter, the person we believe to be responsible with a life- threatening injury. >> he later died at the trauma center by a self-inflicted wound wound. police provided this information -- he was shot in the foot and treated at a local hospital for nonlife- threatening injuries. he had left earlier to go to a baseball game at noon. >> we started getting a text saying something is going on in your neighborhood and found out that the neighbor had been tased by the police and then found out there were two people who had been shot. >> police say an older neighbor man was tased because he interfered with officers as they rushed to the home to end the shooting and save lives, if they could. two bodies remain in the house as investigators continue the work. all those involved are believed to live in the house or attached apartment above the house. a

don knapp is in oakland to explain how the new lane configuration is going to work. don? >> reporter: a holiday weekend, bay bridge construction project, it may bring to mind s curves and i-bars and traffic delays and generate anxiety on the part of motorists but we're told relax, this one is a piece of cake. >> reporter: this is traffic off the bay bridge on the oakland side today. a scene from chopper 5. drivers may have paid little attention to those newly paved lanes on their right. but starting tonight, they will begin driving on them. >> probably around midnight you will start to see us take lanes eastbound, coming off of the bay bridge, into oakland, we're going to be moving all five lanes of traffic to the south. >> reporter: caltrans put this animation on bay bridge info.org to show how it will work. drivers coming off the bridge in the oakland side will be directed to jog a bit to the right. on to the new thousand foot long stretch of lane. caltrans does not intend to shut down the bridge or even slow traffic. selected eastbound lanes will be shut down overnight
