many people dont think about that. just last week we had a volunteer of san francisco bike coalition, his bike was stolen from his garage but he had it properly locked. the thief gave up and abandoned it on the streets. citizen brought it to the bike shop and saw the safe tag, called us and within 3 hours he got the bike back. it isn't just partnership with san francisco police department, bike shops and community members are starting to realize they aults have a opportunity to help get suspicious bikes. it is a huge community effort and it helps take a little pressure off the police department we hope and one of the things we need to be able to bring this to a larger scale or have faster recovery and returning of bikes is ways to make sure that our registry can communicate betper with the police department. now they have to wait until they can call us, we are 10 to 6 organization but bikes are stolen on weekends and middle of the night and want to give that instantaneous response which we are not up to speed with. but

i dont think anybody knows that the streets in the soma are 25 miles a hour. think a lot of people assume they are probably 35 or maybe 45 mile hour streets and we need to do something about making sure that the existing signs are visible and clear to drivers. the other point i like to make today is i'm a new resident to san francisco and chose to move here because it is i think one the best cities for bicycleing in the country if not the world and but i chose to move here over chicago but one thing i like about chicago is they have a program called safe route program and [inaudible] there are some programs that are administered by the city and non profit group jz their outreach organizations on the streets to talk to people about safe bicycleing and also just create awareness on streets that bicyclists are here and do that by setting up tents and having events and passing out fliers and haven't seen anything like that as far as that type of event. i think that type of funding should be sought out and those type of programs should be implemented as part of our
