what did he get arrested for dorian johnson, the eyewitness? june of 20111, our agency was dispatched to a call of a stealing charge on the south side of town. there was an eyewitness that had witnessed mr. johnson allegedly take something from an apartment, the outside of an apartment from a residence there. the police officers arrived, followed him to an area, athletic complex and were able to interview him at that location. when they arrived there and talked with him, he was, i would say, less than cooperative with us in terms of his identity. but there was enough probable cause based upon the witness statement and other evidence that was taken to effect a probable cause arrest on mr. johnson. now, at the time, mr. johnson identified himself as derek johnson and gave a false date of birth. >> did there ever come a time that he was arrested and prosecuted or was this simply an arrest record? >> he was arrested, at that time, and he was taken to the kohl county jail where we do all of our processing of every prisoner. during that arrest proces

apparently, that's around the time he encountered michael brown and dorian johnson. that's where the details end. what we do know though from the new documents that were just released is that from the time that the officer reportedly encountered michael brown and dorian johnson until the time another officer arrived on scene after michael brown had already been shot was just three minutes. so very quick, time line of events here. we're hearing from protesters anger regarding that information being released. saying now we know about the robbery which makes michael brown look like a suspect. in their words, he is being villainized. and yet he's a shooting victim. and we're not hearing anything about that incident. those details. and so there's still a lot of frustration about the lack of information in this, wolf. >> are the police saying, ana, why they released these documents at the same time, the documents involving what was called this strong arm robbery, only moments before he was shot and killed by the police officer. at the same time they've released the identit

report says happened was that michael brown identified by name in these documents and his friend dorian johnson also identified in these documents as the suspects in this alleged strong arm robbery came into the convenience store and that think tried to take some cigars without paying for them and when they were confronted by an employee at the store saying hey you need to pay for those cigars, according to the report, michael brown grabbed the shirt of this employee and threw him up against a display rack and then left the convenience store with those cigars. so that is the scenario or the situation that happened at that strong arm robbery. once that 911 call was dispatched, that's when officers were responding and according to the person who made that 911 call, the suspect then in this strong arm robbery were headed near the quick stop or in the direction of the quick stop or quick trip, where i'm currently standing just a couple of blocks away from where michael brown eventually died. the officer who took this report, again, named michael brown as the suspect in that robbery, strong

and it was a version that was given by dorian johnson. that is that michael brown was never in the police car, that the police officer pulled up parallel to him and reached through the window and grabbed michael brown by the collar. there was some confrontation there. the police officer pulls the gun and shoots michael brown. michael brown then takes off running. now, that's what we have been led to believe: when michael brown took off running, it had to have been at least a few feet back here because from what we have been told, the police officer was racing or running after michael brown. and the police officer in running after michael brown shot michael brown as we know now, at least six times. and it took place in this area here. >> ted, i'm curious. you know, being out on the scene is so different from looking at it on a tv screen or monitor. did walking to the store to the shooting scene give you any new or different perspective? anything occur to you? >> well, yeah. it's surreal because you are able to make a determination of the d

he says dorian johnson has been interviewed by the fbi and st. louis county for nearly four hours. he said that dorian johnson admitted that he and michael brown had had stolen from the store before the shooting. "the times" says this about how the action started on the street. "contrary to what federal witnesses have told law enforcement officials, the officer then reached out of the window with his left hand and grabbed mr. brown by the throat." "the times" begins that by saying contrary to what witnesses have told law enforcement officials, but they never tell you what the witnesses told the law enforcement officials. where does the contrary come from? do those witnesses disagree that the officer reached out of the window at all or do they disagree that the officer grabbed michael brown by the throat and some say he grabbed michael brown by the shoulder near the throat or by the arm or did some day he didn't grab michael brown at all? we have no idea. we're not allowed to judge whether there is a sharp disagreement there. the reporters who worked on this story accepted what law

this is how dorian johnson told that story today. >> when the officer pulled up on us, he was so close to us and he tried to push his door open so aggressively. my friend, big mike, he's a real big guy. i'm not that big, but he's real big, but when he pushed the door open, it didn't get a full inch out and hit us and bounced back on him. almost in an instant, his arm came out the window and grabbed my friend around the neck. when he shot, he let my friend go, and we took off running. now, when the first shots went off, his vehicle was parked in a way that both lanes are taken up. no cars can get past. it's three vehicles parked right in front of the scene. as we're running, i stepped behind the first vehicle and stooped slightly. i could tell the officer was in shock, because it took him at least two or three minutes before he initially got out of the car after the first shot. it was almost like he made a judgment call or think about what he had just done or just saw. and while i'm stooped down behind the vehicle, my friend, big mike, runs past me. he sees me in plain sight. he looks d

i thought dorian was credible, as well. talked about going behind the car there after michael was first shot and he couldn't move his leg, you know, that is a fear response, natural or the brain makes you do that. i've felt like that in shootouts. nobody can make that up. he really experienced that neurological fear. when i watched him say that, i said this is a truthful recount, because nobody could make that up. it's a feeling you can't even describe. and he described it. he was so scared that he stood still. he also described the officer had tunnel vision and went right for michael. that's another thing we get in a shootout is tunnel vision or a shooting situation. so i think they're both very credible. the woman on the balcony is very credible. i could draw up a criminal complaint for murder and civil rights violations on this case in an hour and have that officer arrested. the evidence is strong and it's not going to change. >> yeah, and it could have been done that day. lisa bloom and jim cavanaugh, thank you both ver

police say it appears to be dorian johnson. they say his description matches the young man stopped by police with the friend he called "big mike." no charges will be filed against johnson in that robbery case. minutes later, brown and his friend are confronted by a police officer in his cruiser, about a quarter mile away. question, who's the officer? six days after the shooting, we now know his name. darren wilson. >> he's been a police officer for six years. has had no disciplinary action taken against him. >> reporter: the biggest question, why did officer wilson shoot brown? the answer remains murky. >> the officer says get the [ bleep ] out of the street, verbatim, was his words. >> reporter: johnson says a squad car starts to leave, but goes into reverse. backing up within inches of the teens. >> at that time, the he reached out the window with his left arm. he grabbed on to my friend, big mike's throat, and he's trying to pull him in the vehicle. >> reporter: what little police have said differs sharply. >> one of those i

unlike mike brown's friend, dorian johnson, who had some interest. that will undermine his credibility. believe me. but when you have a neutral witness observing these events, and then recounting them, then that becomes more credible. so if anyone were to pick one of your best witnesses so far, if there is a prosecution, it might go to mike brady. >> what about dorian johnson? you bring him up. he was talking, he has talked to cnn, put himself out there. we have talked to his attorney, and all of a sudden, he has gone away. i have to imagine that it's his attorney now saying, okay. we have to stop talking. >> i'm sure it is. because remember, he have time you see a witness talk, no matter what their motives, if they're interested or not interested, they're creating another transcript. and there is one maxim when it comes to litigation, it's virtually impossible for any of us to tell the exact same story two times in a row. so the more transcripts they create -- not even a paper trail. inconsistency that may not be intentional, maybe just by omission.
