dorsey now says he won't support his own plan to increase police staffing. dorsey says that's because another member of the board made an amendment that he calls a poison pill for his plan. where i have a problem with this is it feels to me like this amendment is holding hostage the city's ability and voters ability to make progress on a public safety crisis that they're facing. now, the original charter amendment would have said a minimum police staffing level of just under 2100 police officers and set aside $30 million a year to recruit officers to fill current vacancy is. dorseynow considering taking his proposal direct to voters as a ballot measure. our time is 504. happening today, a new initiative by oakland mayor shang tao to reduce crime while also boosting oakland's economy. it's called the five after five program. mayor tao will join city and business leaders unveiling the program that she talked about earlier this month during her state of the city address. now, it would allow customers at bars and restaurants to park for only $5. inak, secure 19th street garage during the evening hours. the goal is to make evening shoppers feel safer while also supporting oakland's nightlife and concert venues, as well as businesses on the weekends. antioch has launched a new program to fight crime. the east bay city is now offering money to small businesses to improve safety and security at their stores and shops. the grants are between $5,000 and $25,000, and most of the money will go to businesses in antioch. high crime areas. right now, we are helpless because we
