doug? >> with this scenario, this is a much different scenario that is playing out. the upper level dynamics are so strong, that even though the sun goes down, we will lose those storms right on through the evening hours and we're looking at round two right now, back around i-81, i'm watching that to see if there's a lapse in the strength of that storm and it does look like round two is starting to weaken a little bit. round one may be taken over. we may still see where we see those very strong winds. jim, normally, you're right. when we see the sun go down, the storms start to die out. this is a different situation where we have the potential for the very strong storms right on through the nighttime hours. this is something that we'll be talking about through the next couple of hours, too. >> talk a little bit if you would -- you've been predicting, warning about this line of severe weather since early this week. talk about the circumstances that made this happen. >> we're talking about up

doug can i get back to you for a second? we saw your line of the storm line coming through. we saw all the lightning and all of that. we talked about the hook echo thing with the bow echo. what i have not heard you say is any word about tornados. how come this storm like this didn't create a tornado? >> very good observation. that's the reason why any time you have the bow echoes a lot of times they only push the air out in front of them. that being said, we did have a couple of tornados reported with the storm in ohio and even warnings in northern west virginia and parts of maryland right here. and you notice there is a little spin that right now is around baltimore. but the line itself, that's what we saw, the line itself is just pushing off to the east. you do not see that turning motion within these storms. they are just moving off to the east and those storms allow the winds from aloft -- the winds are 5,000 feet up and moving at 70, 80 miles an hour. they move into that

doug mcelway joins us with more. >> reporter: that the latest move in this chess match.licans on the house overtight committee are saying they are holding attorney general eric holder in contempt. democrats are fighting back. a memorandum says the house never voted to hold any attorney general in contempt of congress and should not do so in this case. their memorandum uses strong language. the contempt memorandum is contrary to the rule of law it adds, holding the attorney general in contempt of congress for protecting these document is an extreme abuse of the contempt power and undermines the authority of the committee. the response calls the memo without merit. the justice department's failure to comply with a lawful subpoena. the republican chairman darrell issa says the contempt process can be withdrawn, but only if the attorney general turns over internal correspondence after february 2012. as recently as this past tuesday attorney general holder told a senate committee he wants to cooperate with the subpoena. >> i'm prepared to make compromises with regard to the d

doug brinkley and a presidential historian back with us today.his topic -- how does health care, obama care, how does it play into the election and specifically the debates between president obama and mitt romney? >> well, today president obama got a lot of momentum. and in politics the big moe is everything. june looked like a romney month. and now the president is ending this month with the wind in his sail. sort of buried the holder contempt story today. nobody in the media's really talking about it. so for barack obama this was big. in fact, he was calling it the affordable care act for so long he may actually want to embrace obama care and get out there and say, yes, like violet you just had on your show. that's who i'm helping right now. mitt romney is staked out that he's dissenting with the supreme court decision. and i think it's going to be one of the more brutal debates this year is re-arguing this health care debate. there's so many tentacles and loose parts that it will drag on with us all the way to next year. >> the debates will be
