this is near north calvert and west lafayette streets, downtown baltimore. police say that the men threatening the girls with a knife and then drove them to a parking lot of seton ceel high school in southwest baltimore. police say the women were both raped by two men who picked them up. a third man arrived later on. the three men are charged in the case of the two 19-year-olds and 20-year-old. mayor dixon praised the work of investigators in this case. >> we need people when they are out to be responsible. i mean, hitchhiking or picking up stray rides, we want to deter people from that and use better transportation forms. >> police say a second attack happened much like the first early in the morning on august 8th. police say that the victim identified the license plate from the car. she told police that and they caught the suspect. that suspect said there were two other people involved. they were the ones that told police. >>> 6:08. flying manholes continue to cause traffic problems in downtown baltimore. what public works calls a minor explosion, four cove

feels like 96 right now in downtown baltimore. the tropical atlantic, take a look alternate what's going on behind our logo. yeah, there's hurricane bill. very strong storm, but not as strong as yesterday. it's lost a little bit of power. psyche where it is in relationship to florida and the carolinas. still way out in the atlantic here. the national hurricane center still thinks bill will curve to the north as a category three or four storm. right now 125 miles per hour for the winds. still a dangerous storm. moving at 16 miles per hour, but as it moves northward it will run into cooler water which means it will limit it a bit. it's not threatening the continental united states though. it's turning. a few clouds around today, but lots of sunshine. that moisture flow continues to give us all that humidity up the eastern sea board, which is giving rise to the shower and thunderstorm activity, which is currently showing up on maryland's most popular radar. the activity in pennsylvania is now falling apart a tiny bit. no precipitatio

car crash less than two hours ago involving baltimore olympic champion michael phelps, and eyewitness news was first on the scene. it happened near downtown in east baltimore. kelly mcpherson joins us from the scene. >> reporter: vic, you can see michael phelps black escalade on that tow truck. what happened was he was driving in this direction, down bittle street when he smashed into a smaller car going north. did he not go to the hospital, but wjz is the only news team to have pictures of michael phelps being interviewed by police. you can see him right there giving his statement right after the accident. the other driver, a female, was taken to the hospital just as a precaution. phelps had two passengers with him, and they were not taken to the hospital. at this point, they are not saying would was at fault. >> at this point we don't know, kelly. we know there was a collision. two cars were driving, they collide heat. we're going to find out if alcohol was a fact to we're going to look at red lights. aiu is literally talking to them as we speak. >> reporter: phelps has been released, and they have ruled out alcohol as a factor. i also

we hit 85 degrees in downtown baltimore. the normal is 86. many areas saw temperatures drop to below 60's. westbound is a little warmer. clear skies for most areas. very little storm activity it will be mostly clear tonight. sun said this evening at 7:48. -- sunset this evening at 7:48. the front will be far enough off shore to keep the storms at bay, and we will have a sunny day tomorrow. as the high moves across the coast, the winds will go back to the southwest. it is not going to get that hot here, but we will see the temperature is moving out tomorrow and the end of the week, and as we get into thursday and friday, the front is moving storms -- producing storms that get a little closer, so our thunderstorm chances will increase thursday afternoon going into friday and the weekend. there you see a couple of isolated storms. some spots could see a storm top of thursday afternoon, but a better chance in our area for friday afternoon. to morosso of the sun. winds out of the west said about 10 miles per hour. -- tomorrow, soak up the sun. win
