this is in downtown manhattan in new york city. take a look at your screen there.wo window washers right now trapped on that scaffold that you can see on your television screen there. dangling on the side of the steep angle after some sort of a cable snapped. now, this is all unfolding on the 69th floor. apparently on the south side of one world trade center. trained members of the new york city fire department are on the scene at this time. some 60 firefighters to try and figure out how to rescue the people that are currently trapped on that piece of scaffolding. the workers are recordly strapped in safely. at least for now. luckily, the fog indicates there's not much of a breeze. as can you see, there's not much of a breeze going on. that's the good news here. rescuers reportedly plan to cut out some sort of a pane of glass to try to reach these workers. where? because as can you see from the sleek outside of this building, there are no ledges.

robert moses live downtown in manhattan with the desperate call one worker made to his wife.good morning. >> leah, good morning to you. of course in "the new york post," one of those window washers called his wife from high atop the city and told her to take care of his children because he didn't know what was going to happen next. fortunately this story ended just fine. everything unfolded here on the south side of one world trade center. the window washers were cleaning 70 stories up when the rig developed slack on its left side. it went from horizontal to nearly vertical. people on the ground craned their necks. rescuers went to work. fire fighters went to the roof of the building and lowered a rope to the men as well as a portable radio so they could communicate. another group of rescuers inside on the 68th floor cut through the thick glass. this was a painstaking process but fortunately it worked. about 90 minutes after it all started, the window washers were pulled to safety. they were briefly hospitalized for minor hyperthrmia but this morning we're told they are just

in new york city over 1,000 people gathered downtown and marched through upper manhattan. helicopters show protesters swarming the area around times square and nypd spokesman said one man was arrested for throwing what appeared to be red paint towards police officers including commissioner bill bratton. in seattle police say demonstrators got on to the interstate where highway officials were forced to close lanes and after several hours of peaceful marching protesters began hurling bottles and rocks and "seattle times" reports police responded with pepper spray and percussion grenades. in oakland, california several hundred people blocked a major highway, interstate 580 before police were able to corral the crowd and re-open the highway several others later. before those protests broke out president obama called for calm in a primetime address and as he recognized the issue of race may play in the distrust between citizens and police. >> we are a nation built on the rule of law. and so we need to accept that this decision was the grand jury's to make. there are americans w
