they held a march through the streets of downtown oakland. and police were ready with their riot gear. although the are protest was pretty peaceful. the march was pretty peaceful. there were reports however, of protesters, some protesters breaking some parking meters and also breaking some window, and spraying buildings with anti-police slogans and police have not had that much of a presence here at the plaza. and they really didn't confront people during that march. but for the fire department, it has been a different story. and the firefighters have been here every day, performing four inspections. since fire hazards were a main concern before that camp was raided on tuesday. and now protesters obviously have big plans for this wednesday. they have been talking about it for several days. a citywide strike is in the works. and they've gotten numerous employees on board. including members of the labor counsel. and the longshoremen and warehouse union and members of the teachers union. and they have three mass gatherings planned for wednesday

and this comes after a march through downtown oakland on saturday.airly peaceful. although there were some reports that there was some graffiti, and also some parking meters were broken. and that the window outside the police recruitment station was broken as well. and police did not intervene during this. and they have kept a pretty minimal presence at the plaza. firefighters however have been here every day. and doing fire inspections, fire hazards were one of the main concerns before the raid on tuesday. and plans are still under way for the citywide strike on wednesday. and protesters have gotten numerous members of the community involved including members of the labor council. and the longshoremen and warehouse union. and also members of the teachers union. and they have three mass gatherings planned during the daytime, and then protesters will gather at the port of oakland. during the evening. and they have told banks, we encourage you to close your doors, because if you don't, we will march on you, at that citywide strike on wednesday. back to

. >> right now teargas is hanging in the air throughout much of downtown oakland. earlier today police used loud speakers telling demonstrators to qleer the area around city hall. when that didn't happen, this is what happened next. police warned the crowd they would use teargas if if the protesters didn't leave, and they kept their promise. they were choking teargas near oakland city hall. this took place at 7:45 and scattered several blocks away. this was not the first time demonstrators tangled with police today. around 6:00 police used flash bang grenades after demonstrators swarmed around a handful of officers trying to make an arrest on washington and a street. demonstrators flung paint and other objects at the officers until reinforcement moved in and pushed the crowd back. a few moments earlier around 5:30, the several hundred marchers hit a wall of marcherswho prevented the demonstrators from reaching police headquarters. there was pushing and shoving with officers arresting a man and woman. the march was loud, but peaceful when it kicked off from the oakl
