zooming if on some of the heavier downpours we're seeing around the bay area right now, downtown san jose moderate rain and briefly heavy rain going from south to north, moving up the peninsula towards palo alto. you see san francisco, showers there, and out towards pleasanton and walnut creek, mill valley the showers moving south, which is a little unusual. we're used to seeing them go west to east as storm systems go by. but the lift in the atmosphere is increasing ahead of a weather system that's still off to the west and some cooler air aloft with it as it crosses over the bay area. could give us a recipe for thunder, even though the sun has gone down. it's this rotation we're seeing offshore that area of low pressure which will push more moisture our way and see a chance of heavier showers at times. yes, snow in the sierra. the snow levels are pretty high close to about 7,000 feet. later on tonight, cooler air moves in. we got the winter weather advisory through the day tomorrow. we should see 6 to 12 inches of fresh powder. cooler air starts to drop in as we get in monday afternoon.
