. >>> a live look outside overlooking downtown san jose this morning. nice sunrise. oh, if it would only warm things up. it's always coldest before the sun comes up and we are feeling it this morning. >> there are some spots dipping into the upper 20s in parts of the north bay and south county. you want to make sure you're dressing in layers and also a hat will help you feel warmer. also, not only this morning, but the next several days, keep those pets inside and check on those plants. i have a couple of them i put on the patio and covered them up to protect from the frost. also, any exposed water pipes, you want to make sure they're wrapped. and the car tire light may come on because of the cold temperatures. you may have to stop at the gas station. in san ramon it will be in the mid-30s. you want to make sure kids are wearing layers for the start of the day and recess. there's a nice recovery today with our highs reaching into the mid to upper 50s for this afternoon. eventually we'll see a little bit of rain in the forecast. we'll talk about that in a few minutes.

the glow of downtown san jose this morning. you would hope that would warm things up, but it is a clear, chilly start to the morning. meteorologist kari hall has been monitoring some of these frost advisories. >> we are still seeing temperatures in the upper 30s in san jose. they're going to dip a few more degrees as we go into the next couple of hours and that may produce frost on the windshield. we're monitoring for that around parts of the bay area. as we go into late morning, still jacket on as we're still mostly in the 40s throughout the early hours of the day. so you want to make sure as you're getting ready, you're standing in front of the closet, wear something in layers and also might want to coordinate a hat with your outfit. also, make sure that you're bringing pets inside, not only this morning but the next several days as cold weather continues. then i have a couple of plants on the back patio and i had to cover them up just because of the cold weather. also, if you have any exposed water pipes outside, you want to

san jose guadalupe river. caltrain posted this video and just few hours ago california tracks one adjacent to that river and downtown san jose. the video was taken under highway 87 caltrain says so far today it has not experienced any issues. a search for a five year old boy who was swept away in flood waters on the central coast has been called off. the boy and his mother were stranded in a vehicle and pasta robles bystanders pull the mother out of the vehicle, but the boy was swept downstream, according to officials after roughly seven hours search, only the boys shoe was found. officials stop the searches. water levels were deemed too dangerous for drivers. san luis obispo county sheriff's office says the boy has not been declared dead. state officials, meantime, say the death toll is up to 14 people. from the latest string of storms. people in san jose's willow glen neighborhood made up most of the bay area's power outages. ktvu is james torres shows us some of the damage left behind in the south bank. at one point this morning, there were more than 5000 customers without power in the willow glen area, and we ca

san jose. so there's the airport at the north part of the top part of the map. but here you have sections of downtown san jose in orange and also stretching down towards campbell and out towards saratoga with a swath of red here in the middle. and what that means is about 5,000 or more customers just in this area alone are without power. we're also looking at anywhere from 500 to 5,000 for these other areas in yellow. so that's where one of the problem spots is. and then we noticed here in the east bay see that red triangle. let's zoom in. that's where we have another area of 5,000 or more customers without power. and this is in union city right on your unit city boulevard just north of the coyote hills regional park. and you can see this neighborhood in red indicates that we have a lot of people there without power this morning. as for the rest of the bay area, we're looking at the east bay with about 6 to 900 customers without power and then to the north bay, roughly 10,000 without power. right now pg e says that they have about 5,000 personnel working on this. they put out a mutual aid. so they're
