dr. sanjay gupta joins us.t whether or not it hinders people from practicing medicine, and whether or not people harmed could get compensation for it. >> a lot of people think threes type of lawsuits can drive up health care costs overall. and let me give you a perspective on what we are talking about. at last recorded, 2008, a million people claim some sort of harm because of medical practice, and so you have 1 million people harmed, and 85 million lawsuits, and 11,000 claims had money on them. you do hear about the higher profile cases, the bigger cases that president obama was eluding to. $6.5 million was need in north carolina was paid, and the real question is how much money is that in the context of health care costs overall. and it's 2% overall of health care costs. the lawsuits themselves and the payouts from the lawsuits do make up a small fraction of health care costs. >> doesn't it have to do with insurance sometimes, because sometimes it's hard to get insurance or they pay a lot for insurance if the

dr. sanjay gupta, joining me to ask a few questions. it's good to see you, secretary sebelius? >> thank you. >> i saw a piece that you wrote saying americans agree with 80% of what is within the proposal, and mitch mcconnell came forward and said yesterday, quote, it's nearly impossible to imagine a scenario under which we can reach an agreement today. your response? >> i am hoping that leader mcconnell and leaders are coming with open minds. there are so many issues, as we pointed out in the post opt ed, there are many comprehensive ideas in the proposals, going after fraud and creating new market places, and assisting small businesses owners and families to get coverage, and making sure that insurance companies can no longer pick and choose who gets coverage and who doesn't. focus on wellness and prevention, and not waiting until people get sick to enter the health care system. the president wants to hear what else the republicans have to put forward that deal with costs in the long term, and deal with coverage in the long term, and deal with insurance company practices. we c

dr. sanjay gupta. >> i am back and already giving tough news about health.he scale and they are looking for their overall number, which makes sense. but what they found is that people who have too much body fat and too little muscle mass, lean muscle mass, can also have problems. this is a study looking at lots of people over a few years. they found people who fell into the normal weight obesity category had about a four times likelihood of developing something that we talked a lot about on american morning, something known as metabolic syndrome. the likelihood of developing hypertension and the likelihood of developing diabetes later on. keep in mind, normal body weight but the normal weight obesity. they predict 30 million americans right now have this condition, so potentially a big problem. >> just saying because i guess you are talking about the unhealthy percentages of body fat. how do you tackle that, not lose weight but get rid of the fat? >> yeah, people may be under weight or normal weight that fall into this. there are pretty good tests out there,
