another harvey dunn painting. like this century that we looked at in the beginning of the exhibition, i think this is a very powerful expression of that idea that we talked about earlier of the individual being a part of larger historical events. here we see two soldiers carrying a fallen comrade across the battlefield and it really is a very moving way to fix the -- very movingly depicts the soldier's experience. perhaps the most powerful object in the exhibition is this wheelchair. this is in actual wheelchair that was used during world war i that came from a collection in france. in my view, it sums up the idea of the experience of the individual. one person used this wheelchair, had their personal story. one thing that is so striking is that it is a makeshift device. it is just a regular chair that was fitted with these wheels to turn it into a wheelchair. the wheelchair is depicted in one of the aef artworks here where we see a soldier convalescing in a wheelchair during the war. again, it illustrates how the
