want to head outside now for a check of the weather from dylan.ood morning again. >> good morning. you know, we are talking about a much colder st. patrick's day parade this time around. here and in a lot of cities in the midwest. take a look at this difference. last year, in chicago, 82 degrees. it is 50 degrees colder this year than it was last year. same thing goes for st. louis last year it was 80 degrees. this year only about 42. and in new york city, last year it was a really nice 62 degrees. this year, it will be about 40. i guess, you know, a little bit below average this time around, 18 degrees colder than it was last year. we are going to see some lighter snowflakes, too, especially by the end of the parade. but it's those wet snowflakes. temperatures today close to 40 degrees. so it's not going to accumulate or anything. just kind of making it look a little pretty. we will see rain back through the ohio river va >> here's a peek outside the window in foster city this morning. low clouds are waking up to an hour by hour. we'll watch low

dylan dreyer is here with the forecast. >> good morning, everyone. a rainy day up and down the eastern seaboard yesterday. we are going to see improvements today. that cold front also taking the warm air with it. yeah, it was raining yesterday but warm. now it is going to cool off as the sunshine returns. it's pretty chilly across the great lakes too where we have snow showers. they're pretty light but they're numerous extending across most of michigan, stretching down into parts of illinois and indiana over into ohio, too. best chance of accumulating snow will be later this afternoon in the higher elevations across west virginia where we could end up with 1 to 3 inches. other than that, the weather is quiet but we are going to talk about the cold air, single digits and teens across the northern plains and this big dip in the jet stream will drag in cool air for the rest of this week even into the weekend, as well. 30 today in minneapolis. 50 today in boston. watch what happens tomorrow. that colder air starts to move in. 49 in chicago, we should top

let's get a check on your forecast from dylan dreyer. happy friday. >> you're so right.w early the cherry blossoms came out last year. >> haven't heard a peep this year. >> if they came out, we might get a freeze spell. we're not talking about anything warm anytime soon. we're looking at more snow. especially back across the northern plains, through the northern peninsula of michigan, as well. a closer look, this is not heavy. we'll see a few inches out of this one. especially back across minnesota and wisconsin and north dakota, too, where we have winter weather advisories posted for three to five inches in a skinny, little swath, through minneapolis, and stretching into west central wisconsin. most areas will pick up one to three inches. this storm system, though, it's a fast-mover. it's going to get in the mid-atlantic region by the weekend. it doesn't look like it's going to affect southern new england. most areas, across connecticut, might see a wintry mix. even in new york city, for the parade, a wintry mix. mainly in the morning and exiting as we go through saturd

nbc meteorologist dylan dreyer is here with more. good morning, dylan. >> good morning, alex. yes, winter does not want to come to an end. we've got snow up across the great lakes, and that is trying to move eastward. although it will fizzle out a lot as it does so. we do have very, very cold temperatures well down into the single digits up across the northern plains. 21 in minneapolis right now. but that snow that's moving through michigan, and about to move onshore in the west coast of new york state and also northwestern pennsylvania, that is where we are going to see accumulating snow, although not that much of it. this is a very fast-moving system. it is diving down into the mid-atlantic region. it looks like we'll just pick up about an inch to three inches, western michigan could end up with closer to about three to six just because that's where we have had some heavier snowfall reports. and then that snow that fills in across minnesota. that's the next storm that's going to start moving in by early next week. and it does look like mostly a rainstorm for areas along the

good morning, dylan. >> hey, alex, good morning. spring is nowhere to be found. you really have to go down into the deep south to get anything warm. temperatures are going to stay well below average across most of the country. today you can see we're in the teens in billings. 23 right now in minneapolis. we are going to see a round of severe storms, especially later on tonight and into tomorrow morning. right now, we have frequent cloud-to-ground lightning across parts of northern alabama, that is moving towards atlanta. and that could create some travel troubles this morning, especially in and around atlanta airport. now we also have snow on the backside of this storm system. parts of denver, already picked up almost a half a foot of snow. and you can see the snow is still coming down across parts of the plains states where we do have winter storm warnings and advisories and winter weather watches stretching into illinois and indiana. we are looking at several inches of snow to fall between today and tomorrow. then it will eventually move into the mid-atlantic r
