in the east bay ... the storm turned deadly after a tree branch fell on a man in east oakland. the tree branch came down near the ardley avenue overpass ... which goes over interstate- 580. officials say one person was staying underneath the tree at the time. the incident happened just before 5:30 yesterday in an area behind a fence that was closed to the public. the victim has not been named. officials say the branch came down on cal-trans property. on withers avenue near pleasant hill road ... the contra costa county public works department was busy cleaning up a downed valley oak tree. luckily no one was hurt and no property was damaged. but its just one of many weather-related incidents that crews expect to respond to in the coming days. thanks will. ( james ) the high cost to rent a one-bedroom apartment in san francisco is having a trickle down effect on surrounding bay area cities... according to zillow the areas seeing the largest increase in rents are actually in the east bay and south bay. oakland has seen the most dramatic spike in rents for one-bedroom apartments. in 20-17 zillow says the average price for a one-bedroom unit in oakland went for as low as two-thousand dollars. but by the end of 20-18 -- the average price jumped to more than 28-hundred dollars. properties- "oakland and berkeley have become hubs of innovation, um, and more jobs have been coming to those areas too. so, it's really a triple whammy. you have lots of positive economic activity, uh, in all these communities that have increased demand. and, as much as you see lots of building being done everywhere, its nowhere near what needs to be built.">( james ) exp

numbers released by zillow that the areas seeing the largest increase in rents are actually in the east bay and south bay. kron four's philippe djegal explains the numbers. (philippe) oakland... in the past two years... has seen the most dramatic spike in rents for one-bedroom apartments. from 20-17 until early last year, zillow says the median price for a one-bedroom unit in oakland went for as low as two- thousand dollars to as a high as 22-hundred dollars. but by the end of 20-18 -- the median price for that category of an apartment jumped to more than 28-hundred dollars. a two-year increase of 27- and-a-half percent. santa clara, in the south bay ranks second on the list, seeing an increase of nearly 14-and- a-half percent in the same time frame. foster city ranks third... where in the past two years... the median price for a one-bedroom unit has jumped more than 9-percent. sam sorokin/premium properties- "we need probably five times as much housing built than was built in the last five years, uh, in order to really reach the demand." sam sorokin is a managing partner and broker with pr
