it's 540 over in the east bay.special election for a new mayor in april. barbara lee's name is being floated as a possible candidate, the congresswoman announced on social media she'll make a decision in early january. lee wants to wrap up her term first. speaking of, a lawsuit has been filed to try and stop the expansion of the oakland airport. the stop oak expansion coalition claims the port of oakland, which runs the airport, is in violation of state laws. it's in part because the port has not requested a health impact assessment from alameda county. the lawsuit also claims the expansion would increase flights at the airport by 55% and increase air pollution in east oakland. we're getting a live look at sfo this morning as people head out for the holidays. i'm seeing at least 20 or more flight cancellations in the past 24 hours in this area. transportation officials are expecting a record number of travelers to go through tsa this weekend, so be sure to check your flight and give yourself some extra time. this c

but right now central valley east bay still fairly dry. also the peninsula and then down through the south bay. let's talk about what's next and what we can expect with the impacts and the timing of this. we're going to see the heavier rain and the gusty winds really ramp up overnight into early saturday morning. wind gusts could reach upwards of 30, 40, 50 plus for some of the higher elevation areas. wind advisories and warnings will be in effect starting at about 7:00. so we're talking about an hour. we've also got flood watches in effect. in addition to that, king tides, coastal flood advisories, and then of course the winter storm warning in the sierra. but stick around. i've got a full look at the timeline hour by hour, and also the totals with potential impacts coming up. okay, we'll see you in just a few moments. like vianey mentioned, the north bay could get hit the hardest. plenty of people preparing for the water and the wind, and that's where it gets tricky. let's bring in nbc bay area's velena jones, who joins us this evening in

this is a live look from the east bay. a whole lot because the clouds have kind of taken over here. as we look at our temperatures, you can see we are sitting in 50's at the moment. it's been a slightly below average day today but not too bad. temperature wise. let's track the showers as we go through tonight. they are light. they are scattered and that will be the case right through the evening. but tomorrow, notice things start to pick up a little bit. there in the north bay. they mostly stay just in the north bay. that's about 5 o'clock until we get into the late overnight hours. so this is 12:30am, sir. right after midnight, you start to see models picking up on very heavy showers rolling in and again, another push they're coming in saturday morning. and again, you see those oranges or reds, you know, that's going to be heavy downpours. once we get to saturday night, then we start to clear out we actually catch a break for our sunday. so between now and then we have into tomorrow morning picking up another 10th to a qu

especially off in the east bay. slow because that dense fog in the valley from the sacramento valley is really impacting areas like the san joaquin area as well as the delta. now heading into this afternoon, the dense fog advisory will expire but right now if you live in any of the highlighted counties in gray all around me, you are under a dense fog advisory so just take it slow out there as we head out this morning. daytime highs today up near santa rosa and petaluma and novato pretty much all in the low 60s. a cool and mild day for us today with warm weather expected down closer to san jose and all throughout the santa clara valley. now the other big weather story for us i just mentioned it, has to do with what we're expecting heading into this weekend. our rain chances actually start to increase as early as saturday. we're expecting to see showers throughout saturday and a break for a little bit on sunday but then more as we head into monday and tuesday of next week. with that we're also going to see some pretty

we do have frost advisories for another hour for the inland east bay and north bay due to how cold it

beneficial rain for the east bay. rainfall amounts throughout today. anywhere for a couple hundredths to a third of an inch through 11:00. we get more in the north bay then we're adding on monday night into tuesday, upwards of two inches in the north bay, a third of an inch in the south bay. so this is our other break. it's on hanukkah where we will be dry a few peeks of sun, christmas day, those downpours ending on christmas eve allowing for that break. middle of the week 60s today. look how mild and that rain ends. so. bulk bulk of the day is dry. after that we've got more showers on tap for the rest of the and protecting our environment are both parts of building a better bay area and in the south bay, an outreach effort is underway to help relocate people living near waterways. abc seven news south bay reporter lauren martinez shows us the first steps being taken. >> the city of san jose is preparing to relocate 1000 homeless people living along creeks and rivers. on tuesday, mayor matt mehan joined an outreach team off coyote creek to see after the

but let's take it into that cold with our frost advisory here over the inland north bay, east bay and south bay, temperatures ranging 32 to 39. so you want to make sure to bring those pets inside and check any kind of outdoor irrigation pipes that might be exposed. you could have to cover those up. so for tomorrow morning, here's how low it's going to go. we are down to an average of 40 in the peninsula. south bay 41. but once you get away from san jose, down towards morgan hill and gilroy, we certainly could be in those 30s, 38 here for the tri-valley. also dipping down to 36 for the north bay, san francisco 44 and the east bay, with an average here of 37. so layer it up. it's going to be that kind of a morning as we head through the afternoon, though you might not need a jacket at least all the way through the day. san jose is going to rebound to 69 degrees under sunny skies and light winds, 61in martinez 65. hayward out to antioch were also in the low 60s. 60 here in half moon bay 64 redwood city down to palo alto, woodside, atherton, los altos. temperatures also in the low 60s, sa

reds there and rain rates of almost a half inch an hour over into the east bay. getting into the act here from concord, you see the lightning strike out towards altamont and up in the north bay for a change. here you've got the lighter rain, but this will continue to slide on through. so another hour and a half of this heavy rain, gusty winds, thunderstorms this level three. and then this is going to be downgraded to a level one as soon as 730, 8:00 as this system passes to the east of us with that dangerous surf. so the weather service right on it right now looking at these areas and allowing for a flood advisory to take us through 8:00 this morning, that's how heavy the rain is coming down and the soil can't absorb it. so we're going to see some trees come down, some power outages. so 6:00 this morning. look how quickly it's out of here. and you can see the winds wrapping around this through 10:00. the winds are going to stay with us through about noontime. then we break out into some sunshine. this is sunday morning and then the clouds move in. another much, mu
