charlotte. >>> back to the breaking news in east sharment. police are looking -- east charlotte. police are looking for a driver who hit and killed someone overnight in east charlotte. in the past half hour, officers cleared the crash scene on central avenue. >> eyewitness news reporter angela hong is live at an apartment complex nearby where officers are focussing their investigation now. a? >>reporter: that's right, stephanie, we're at the green briar apartments a quarter mile away from the accident scene and you can see right now, police are in the process of covering up the windshield of the silver honda odyssey with, i believe it is some sort of blue tape. we were here earlier, we were the first on the scene, and actually got some video of that car. we got a closer look, you could see the window is smashed through. there is heavy front end damage. the bumper was nearly falling off. police tell me they have not made an arrest in this case. this car was left here at the apartment complex but they do we were at scene of the accident around 2:30 this morning. police tell us that

we had a winter mix ball across the area and seen a little bit charlotte but most has moved east of the charlotte area. temperatures overnight dropping down into the 20's and 30's across the area. yesterday, we got into the upper 40's and 50's but knock about 10 degrees off of that today. in the mountains, it is in the upper 20's, greenville-spartanburg-anderson at 24. 36 in gaffney, 33 in lake lure, so everybody dealing with the chilly beginning to friday. in a 20 to 25 mile-per-hour wind and it feels like 10 in hendersonville and more like seven in boone, 15 in asheville and in the upstate, feeling like 28 in anderson. a cold beginning to the day, but by the afternoon, we get into the upper 40's for the upstate and around 44 the mountains. couple light breezes with high temperatures reaching the 50's in the upstate and mid 40's in the mountains. little bit better by a three degree champ on sunday with upper 40's to mid 50's, and that will be where we typically expected to be this time of the year. next bit of winter excitement could come monday what morning -- could come monday mornin

. >> john: now let's begin with the breaking news we've been following out of east charlotte, police say one person was killed in a hit and run on central avenue near sharon amity. right now the investigation has moved to the green briar amounts not farapartments. mark davenport live at the scene, tell us what happened and what have police found? >> reporter: john, fatal hit and run on central avenue and just around the block like you said, the green briar apartments, police found the vehicle. a man was killed on central avenue, a little ways away they found this vehicle. a minivan, i'll get you a better look, closer to the scene here. we're looking at a minivan in between all the police tape out here. police found this backed in a parking space here in the green briar apartments, they put the blue tape where the windshield was shattered, you can see further down here at the front of the honda minivan that the front left hand side, the left hand front of the car, completely shattered and crushed in as well. police believe this is the vehicle they have been looking for but don't have

police in charlotte have arrested and charged a man in a deadly hit-and-run accident in east charlotte. they say he is charged with driver while impaired. felony death by vehicle and felony hit-and-run. police say he hit and killed a pedestrian trying to cross central avenue 2:30 this morning. a short time later, he called 911 and said someone moved his honda van from its parking spot on north sharon amputee road. the vehicle was determined to be the suspect vehicle. he was arrested after being questioned by police. the name of the man killed hasn't been released. police looking for the person they say shot and killed a man in gaston county yesterday morning at a party on lanier near the mount holly city limits. police say the shooting victim several neighbors told us prior to the shooting dozens of cars lined the road the past two nights. police have not identified the victim. a crash near charlotte-mecklenburg international airport left a pickup truck halfway up a utility pole this morning. this is a crazy sight. 6:45 this morning at barry drive sending one person to the hospital wit

west of charlotte, we'll be out of this quickly. east of charlotte, highway 601 to highway 52. i'm getting more concerned about more ice build up. because while this is moving on to the east, the steadier rain clears huntersville in 15 minutes, uptown at 5:30, concord, monroe, a little before 6:00. the more you head toward highway 52, the longer it takes for this stuff to get out of here. temperatures are below freezing everywhere or at freezing from charlotte to university city, harrisburg, mint hill, monroe. 31 in gastonia. and the more north you go, readings are in the 20s. spot on the map is 3300 feet up in boone. that's right. just plain old rain in boone. warm air rises. eventually this warm air will win out as we head through tonight. the rain becomes more patchy in the next couple hours as temperatures start to rise in charlotte above freezing. here's the future cast. you can see the freezing rain get squeezed by midnight. the last to see a change over will be in the mountains. you saw that steady batch of heavy rain. it's out of here by 7:00 tonight or tomorrow morning.

. >> john: right now, one westbound lane of independence boulevard near i-277 in east charlotte is shut down, because of a water main break. there are concerns about water collecting in the road and freezing, crews there are working to repair it. mark davenport has more. >> reporter: we heard from nc-dot officials overnight. what they told us they are scheduled to have one lane closed down on independence boulevard heading in the city at least until 4:00 this afternoon. department of transportation officials closed this lane about two nights ago, they had concerns about water collecting worried it could create hazardous conditions for drivers this morning when you have temperatures below freezing like they are right now in charlotte. you can see traffic signals out here that are pointing drivers in the other lanes here on independence, heading right in the city. >> one lane is closed, will be closed until 4:00 p.m., crews figured out that a water pipe from the city caused all the problems to begin with. that pipe had burst, so the department of transportation handed over control of the

call made moments after police say a man forced a teenager to get into his car at gunpoint in east charlotte. >> coming back home, saying someone to get in the car, and he ran home. >> that is the victim's mother. she says her son was walking to school on conference drive early thursday morning when a guy pulled up in a white car and pointed a gun at him and forced him into the car. the teenager did eventually manage to escape. the suspect was driving a white four-door sedan, a chevy or malibu. >> new developments tonight, the michigan uber driver charged in a shooting ram pain told investigators that he quote, took the people's lives. and jason dalton's first court appearance, a kalamazoo police detective told a judge that dalton admitted to the shootings that killed six people and injured two others. tonight, president obama offered his condolences to the victim's families. >> saturday, another one of our communities was terrorized by gun violence. your families who are shattered today. >> police say dalton opened fire at three separate shootings over the course of seven hours on saturday.
