new york, the food carts. they're becoming the targets of thieves. >> reporter: food cart vendors on alert. e latest robbery in east new york. this cart owner tells us how one of his workers stared down a gun. >> midnight like at 2:30, four people came. one guy with a gun. >> reporter: police are looking for four men linked to two food cart robberies. they've gotten away wi ith several hundred of dollars. vendors have been hit. including near this corner. phil says working behind the grill is tough on a good day, let alone when someone is pointing a deadly weapon in your face. >> people are working hard the ole day. i never heard about that. >> reporter: in all the cases the mo is the same. the suspects come up to the window, pu l a gun and demand cash. this vendor told us she's never had a problem. some orkers say they may not stay open as late. how long you been here for? >> three years. reporter: never had any problems like this? >> no. >> reporter: no one has been physically hurt but nerves are rattled among workers trying to make a living. east new york, gus rosendale. >>> now to the chase for the championship

he's serving a life sentence for a 1998 murder in east new york. the i-teams sarah wallace shows us what she's uncovered. >> reporter: 34-year-old nelson cruz has now spent more than half of his life in prison. he was 16 when he says he willingly went to the 75th prezingt pre precinct to answer questions. uz told me his life changed when a detech tive walked into the room. >> he tried to get a confession out of me at the precinct. when i refused to sign it he crumpled the paper and slapped me in my face with it, said, sign the statement and go home. >> reporter: he and his partner did interview two police officers who happened to be on the street at the time of the murder. they indicate there was a different suspect. one describes a male hispanic with the ponytail pointing a black gun. the man then dropped the gun and was handcuffed at the scene. >> did you ever have a ponytail? >> scarcello and his partner get to the precinct and everything changes. >> eporter: cruz was suddenly charged and convicted. he claims his alibi witnesses were never .nter

thursday morning 35-year-old rafael veras was found unresponsive in the front seat of his car in east new york and police say he had been established multiple times in the chest. from the bronx. this is from the popeye's near 149th street. according to police, 25 people attacked a 16-year-old boy at that restaurant september -- tuesday, september 22nd. the boy managed to escape with just a cut on his head but did need to be treated at the hospital. you're asked if you recognize anyone in these pictures, call the nypd. >>> if the coffee didn't wake up customers at a nashville cafe, a bus barreling toward them sure did. surveillance video shows a man and woman sitting at the window. they gather their coffees and laptop and get out of the way just in time too. within seconds you can see the back of a bus come crashing through a window. the driver reported mechanical problems before the crash and got everyone off the bus. that is when it rolled backward on its own. >>> students and faculty members at the university of mississippi to take down the state flag and its confederate emblem from campus.
