the areas in red in the last 24 hours, show you the fire did expand on the east side.cifically, up toward twin bridges, near sierra tahoe resort is located. winds, 10 to 20 miles an hour. with this particular fire, all the fires burning across california, nighttime temperatures staying warm and dry. we don't get much relief. the humidity numbers are still dry. temperatures close to 90 degrees, more wind. lower humidity. we can show you where the fire is headed. approaching twin bridges, spotting of the fire, near philips, there is echo summit. myers, south lake tahoe. if the winds increase during the day tomorrow, out of this direction, it looks like the push will be near echo summit and potentially down south of south lake tahoe. that is the way the winds will be accelerating. 25 mile an hour winds. you can see the smoke output increasing, as you apply more wind to the fire, it ramps up intensity, and increases the rate of spread. the location for the caldor fire and they are under the red flag warnings, the fires making a run to the east more likely, and enhanced by

and as you can see on the map the growth of the fire is mainly there on the east side. purple part is what you're seen. here's more on that story from >> reporter: rit now we are live near the fire line. evacuations from twin bridges and highway 50 two the alpine county line. a lot of resources on the northeast size of the fire. they are trying to prevent the flames from moving farther south. in the video you can see the wind whipping the fire around picking up energy and creating a very challenging fire fight. firefighters are dealing with a lot of sparking spot fires in the dry vegetation and torched trees. we saw firsthand how dangerous the situation can turn as several trees went up in flames. firefighters immediately jumped into action and hose down the flare up. how hard is it not knowing when you can return? scene i do not know. there's not much you can do. it is very stressful. >> reporter: evacuees are still dealing with the unknown. not knowing that there homes are still standing. air attack efforts will be used this evening. we have not heard any airplanes or

regardless, we'll see major impacts especially on the east side of the system. that is where you see the worst impacts in the northeast quadrant, that is where you get the strongest winds, highest surge and biggest tornado potential. this is what the radar will look like later this afternoon going into this evening as it comes ashore. notice the thunderstorms piling up across southeastern louisiana, moving up into mississippi and alabama. on this side as it approaches, the winds will cause the water to pile up and we could see catastrophic storm surge up to 15 feet near the mouth of the mississippi. in terms of the rainfall, when it makes landfall, it will slow down and really rain itself out. where that center goes, we'll see rainfall get up to about a foot in some areas up to 20 and a wide swathe of 4 to 6 inches on into the lower mississippi valley and the tennessee valley and in addition, kim, yeah, we'll see tornadoes there on the east side of the system. >> i guess the only hope now is that it passes through quickly. tyler mauldin, thank you so much. we'll
