drop-off boxes for prescription will be going up at police stations and sheriff's offices across eastern iowa. it's an effort to stop opioid addictions, which can often lead to heroin addictions. earlier this month, we reported that the university of iowa's college of public health says there has been a 250 percent increase in iowa's unintentional l oisoning deaths from 2002 to 2014. nearly 83 percent of those deaths were linked to prescription abuse or illicit drug use. today the u-s attorney's office for thhnorthern district of iowa unveiled four new boxes where people can discard unwanted medicines. the newest boxes will be in secure sites at the johnson county sheriff's office ann the police departments in coralville, university heights, and waterloo. and while people can drop off many types of medicines, the real purpose is to collect pain pills thatt people can abuse.
