steve, our colleague, ed lavandera, he's there on the scene. i don't know if you heard his report. he described it as a lull. they were waiting to be reunited. what information can people provide if they were at this mall? >> i think if you were a witness of the actual shooting, got a view of the shooter, yeah, they want to talk to you. if you didn't, likely you're not needed right at that second. and people crowding around who don't have firsthand information might not be a huge help. anybody who has cameras, store managers of places that have nearby cameras that might have caught this attack, bringing those forward to the police and to law enforcement would be of extreme value so they don't have to walk into every store and say do you have cameras. where are they? which they'll eventually have to do. there are two faitphases to thi. you have the first phase and the mop-up and the understanding of the motives for this. so right now, it appears that they're kind of at the end of the exigent phase. they need to know whether two people or are we going to use all of our manpower hours

let's get to cnn national correspondent ed lavandera. ng the evidence against paxton overwhelming. when does this trial start? >> well, it's going to be the summer of impeachment, right now, what we've heard from state senators is that on june 20th, a committee that will establish the rules for this impeachment trial will present those rules. this hasn't happened for a statewide office holder in texas in more than 100 years. it was back in 1917, that the texas governor was impeached and removed from office. so in the words of the lieutenant governor dan patrick today some of those rules are outdated so that will happen. then there's another resolution that says that the trial must take place before august 28th. look from june to august 28th for this trial to take place. 12 house managers are overseeing the evidence, of course, ken paxton, will have the opportunity to present this case. whether or not he will testify in his own behalf is not known at this point. but ken paxton is not going quietly with all of these allegations swirling aro
