kennedy: edward lawrence, thanks so much.e administration coming to its senses on the danger of a looming trade war and how will this affect you. let me ask commentary editor tim carny. you and i both share the desire to be trade war free for you and me and all of the other frolicking economic booming americans who don't want the goods and services and products they love and adore to be more expensive. what is going on with this delay? >> well hopefully this shows that what the trump administration was trying to accomplish was holding tariffs over these countries as a threat. it's an odd threat because they hurt both the countries we're threatening and us. but if it's mostly saying you have to give up your own protectionism or your own overregulation, then he could be working towards a case of actually freer trade. one of the problems, though, is that we mentioned south korea. one of the concessions we got for south korea was instead of tariffs it was quotas. in other words, south korea was only allowed to sell so much steel

let's go to our own edward lawrence with the story. hey, edward.eporter: trish, boeing has been smart how they manage things. airline manufacturers will be hit some of biggest. of the two biggest airline manufacturers, airbus is impacted more than any because they have already started to deliver planes to iran that they did under a deal in 2016. so airbus now will fall under that sanction even though it's a european firm because there are american parts inside of their planes. boeing will also feel impact of this. they signed a deal last year for $3 billion with irlines in iran. in total they have agreements for about 110 planes worth $20 billion. the big difference though the company has not started building those planes yet. >> we had made any skyline production slot commitments on those airplanes. i think most sensitive to that was the 777 line, our wide body line. none of those planes are in the backlog. we were pushing some of those out to mitigate our risk and we'll continue to follow the u.s. government's lead here. reporter: the other big i

let's go straight to edward lawrence. what it all means and how other nations are responding. edward. reporter: seems we're headed into a trade skirmish with the canada, mexico, and european union. the commerce secretary believes that all of this tariffs end result will be a greater trade deal with the european union. the president believes the trade talks are moving too slowly with the eu and nafta. these tariffs are designed to put pressure on all of the talks, as well as put america first. canadian prime minister justin trudeau addressed his country about the american tariffs. this is not just a blip in the relationship. >> the american administration has made a decision today that we deplore and obviously is going to lead to retaliatory measures as it must. but we regret that. we would much rather move together in partnership. reporter: the canadians matched the tariffs. impact of the u.s. tariffs on canada. putting 25% tariff on steel coming into canada and 10% on aluminum but also, adding 10% on other products like sleeping bags, yogurt, felt tippens and inflatable boats.

allies including canada, mexico and the eu our very own edward lawrence has latest. reporter: hi, trish. there has been a flury of activity with countries trying to come to the trade deal because of announced tariffs on steel and aluminum. trish, take a look at the list. these countries saw this coming and ended up making free trade deals with the united states. as we broke the news, argentina, australia, and brazil all made deals in principle yesterday. the details will be finalized in the next 30 days. south korea made a deal and it was finalized to avoid those tariffs that leaves the europe and china. but the european union is a different story here. as we know the french president and german chancellor were here talking to president trump trying to get them to back off those tariffs. senator joe lieberman says the u.s. will actually need the european union going forward. >> i don't think he wants to get into into a trade war. with europe. i think he also wants to have the european leaders stand with him in these other negotiations which are different, because unl
